Trek Game : T.T.H (Take The Helm)
STORY:
In this game, you begin as a brand new, fresh for the Academy fighter
pilot. You are right in the middle of a war with the Userans, a war like
race that feed of other species for energy. You are assigned to a fighter
squadron and are put into battle with the enemy. The Userans possess fighters
with the same power and size as your own, as well as battlecruisers, and
the gigantic starfeeder ship, which feeds off of the energy of stars.
After you have proven your worth in to fighter squadron, by surviving
missions, accomplishing tasks, and progressing through multiple types
of fighters, you are assigned to a light cruiser. You are now the pilot
of a starship. Once again, you progress to larger and more powerful ships,
depending on your how well you carry out your mission. Your goal is to
achive the position of helmsman aboard the largest, most powerful ship
in Starfleet, so you will be better suited to engage the starfeeder when
it attepmts to feed of of the Earth's sun.
GAMEPLAY: Star Trek Game
When you begin as a novice pilot, you are given the smallest, least powered
fighter in the fleet. You must accomplish missions, such as defending
colonies, bases, and other missions which involve using your tactical
skills. You have full control of the fighter. You control impulse, warp
engines and thrusters. You fire weapons, as well. The computer takes care
of damage control.
As you progress through the missions, and have achieved the correct amount
of 'credits' you are promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and are posted
aboard a light cruiser, still fighting in the war. Manuvering is a bit
different because of the larger size, but you also have more fire power
and speed at your control.
As you achieve credits, you are assigned to larger, more powerful ships.
One of the vessels that can be piloted is the Galaxy class. With this
vessel, if there is a danger of warp core breach, the ship will seperate,
and it is up to you to get the saucer section as far away from the star-drive
section as you can before it exploads. For a look at what it would be
like to play this game, we will use the Galaxy class as an example.
At the start of the mission, you must pilot the ship out of drydock. There
is a speed limit, and if you exceed this limit, you will fail the mission.
Follow procedure out of the dock, then when you are at acceptible range,
engage at warp to the pre-calculated destination. 3 camera views are availiable.
1) Chase view- from the rear of your ship/fighter 2) Pilot's Eye View-Nothin'
but the the space in front of you 3) Cockpit view-Infighters, this shows
the cockpit, in the Star Trek starships, this shows the viewscreen and
your console, with hands that use the controls according to your actions
As you engage into warp, there is no cut scene, but your ship engaging
and flying at warp, until it decellerated into your next destination.
This preserves the realism factor.
Let's say on this mission, you encounter a Useran base, swarming with
fighters and a few battleships. In every mission, you will have at least
5 ships of your size, and several fighters, so you are not alone. You
target the nearest enemy ship, select either torpedoes or phasers, and
fire. With phasers, holding down the fire button results in a steady beam.
If your target is to your dorsal starboard, the nearest phaser strip will
fire, so you need not be facing the target. Aft torp launchers are also
availiable if the target is to your aft.
Subspace chatter and your own crew speaking is heard, and this clues you
in on critical mission elements. In one mission, the fleet commander may
order all ships to converge on one spot of a target, or to retreat. You
must listen to this to complete missions. Your HUD diplays phaser power
and torp quantity, as well as shield strength. The computer manages all
power distribution so you need not worry about that. The HUD is very simple
yet informative, with all the information you need and none that you do
not.
Once you reach the final mission hich is the battle against the starfeeder
ship, you will do the best if you have been assigned to the most powerful
of the ships. The starfeeder is huge, so the Starfleet armada is also
large. Hundreads of ships flying around you, some good, some not, and
you have got to watch out for them. Blinking markers at all corner points
of the screen tell you if a ship is too close, and if there is a colision,
most likely, it is all over for you. Your fellow vessles may be destroyed,
and shrapnel becomes a threat. The starfeeder itself has numerous gun
turrets on its hull, which are also damaging to your ship. You may fly
as close or as far away from the feeder, as well as around it, taking
advantage of the several phaser strips on your ship, mounted on all sides.
If you fail to destroy the feeder, it sucks all the power from the sun,
and the Earth is doomed. If you succeed, the sun will live to see another
day. These are only some of the features of Star Trek: T.T.H. This game
would have incredible attention to detail, and could possibly be one of
the most fun Star Trek games ever created.

I'm also a big Star Trek fan, and I understand
that when you picture this game inside your head it is probably the most
amazing game ever. But for me it's not innovative enough for the hall
of fame, or bad enough for the hall of shame. But who cares, it's Star
Trek! :]
