Sound Engines in Games

Anybody who knows anything about actual game creation understands that it takes up a lot less space to create cinemas using the game engine rather than storing cinemas as videos. Sadly, this has yet to be implemented with sound. My idea is to create an engine for a game that would create sound (from music to sound effects) on the fly. Not only would this allow a lot of "apparent" sound in a game, but it would also make neat effects like music that alters with what is occurring in the game easier to do. While first attempts of this would lead to sound that isn't as good as regular recorded sound, people might just be blown away by all of the variety of sound that could be stored on a game.

I know that a sound engine would be difficult to create, but once created it could easily be used in many other games. This might be a good option for big companies since they would have so many games to use this engine in. Also, this would be good in sport games where the possibility for more varied and detailed audio commentaries would then be possible. While being difficult to create, a sound engine would be a great idea.

I imagine it almost like as when you have real time lighting effects in a game, that the computer would always calculate the sound instead of using stored sound effects. Like if you shoot a hole in a door, the computer would then calculate how a door with a hole in it sounds like. I don't have a clue on how this could be done either, and maybe it's all a waist of processor power. Well, I give you a Discovery Boy for being innovative.
