Warhero - War Game
In Warhero you play a bald, African soldier with a goatee beard and
oversized biceps who (more often than not) is carrying a gun in each hand
and pointing it at some foreign bloke. You fight battles in countries
around the world, each time completing an objective outlined to you via
a nifty looking lap-top computer at the start of each level. The 'camera'
is positioned behind the character's head for a third-person view.
Warhero crosses the best of multiplayer only games (like Quake III or
Unreal Tournament) and mainly single player ones (like Half-Life). It
takes the cut-scenes and (basic) puzzle elements from single-player games
and puts them in non-linear levels that you might find in a multi-player
only game. Although these levels would have a strict beginning and an
end that you had to reach, the route that you take between the two is
up to you. Re-spawning is out, once you're dead that's it. However, the
AI of the opponents is similar to that of a Multi player game, each character
is given a starting point but after that they wander around looking for
you. Lets say you have a tank - for example - that is placed right at
the end of the level. It will roam around so that the player can avoid
it if he is sneaky, but if his mission objective is to destroy it then
he can wait until it is in a certain location and ambush it. This makes
each game unique, as next time the tank might take a different route through
the level and end up in a different place. Something missing from action
games these days (single or multi-player) is hand-to-hand combat. This
would be handled in the same way as it is in platformers like Urban Chaos.
Putting your guns away and approaching an opponent can result in some
amazing karate-style moves being performed. Hand-to-Hand combat is made
a necessity within the game by the lack of convenient ammunition being
dropped around each level. Ranged weapons are the usual First-person shooter
style; shotguns, machine-guns, pistols and rifles dominate your arsenal

I totally agree with you guys, we need more
Hand-to-Hand combat. I'm still waiting for Lara Croft to take some Karate
lessons.
