I was thinking.... A few years ago (the 80's I think) there was a game Leisure suit Larry 1. It was definitely a kick ass game for the time being, but what I would like to point out is interactivity. You didn't have defined commands like open, close, or whatever, instead there was a bar in which a player wrote down what he wanted to do and if nothing else you would at least get a respectable answer. This certain function makes the games unforgettable. Just think what game developers could do with this today. They could create a speech recognition engine that would perform a test when a new player is created, then this player would do some specific things, that would let the program recognize his voice (this is the 21st century after all) and then a user would interact with the game in the manner of speech. e.g. this game would be happening in the near future where people interact with cars, and when you would rise up in the morning and go to the garage you would sit in the car and say: and the computer would reply: and you would say: and the computer would tell you that a cable has been melted yesterday, because of the malfunction with the car's cooling and then you would have to go to the hardware store and say: and you would get it.....if you would say something wrong the game would have some answers that would be logical (if they did it 10 years ago, then they can do it today). GEEZ.....I'm at work, it's 7.30 am and my imagination is working overtime, I guess I'm still in REM :))

Oh yes, I remember the Larry games (I was just a kid then so these games made quite an impression on me he he). I loved the Larry games, at least Larry 1,2,3. After they started to use this new defined command system that you talked about, take, open, look, and so on., the Larry games were never the same :-(
Do you remember Heroes Quest and Quest for Glory? Same as the Larry games but more of an RPG. SIERRA!!! Bring back the old typing based gameplay!!! Or maybe you could use Marko's voice idea :]
