FPS - Playing in actual time for real

Reading the idea of Barry Bawden reminded me of a concept of taking the first person 3-d arena and combining with real function interfaces, such as banking and shopping (I am sure there are far more practical ideas on this), really anything at all you rather not be doing than playing your FPS. Imagine Duke blasting his way through a platform and stopping to dial for pizza on his cell phone.
