Freestyle Motocross 2000

Hey,
I've been sitting here and watching the x-games and I'm an avid motocrosser. I believe that freestyle motocross is on the rise and is one of the fastest up and coming extreme sports today.

I'm not very experienced in creating games so I might jump around allot. So my idea is for a freestyle motocross game. The name could be something as simple as well... freestyle motocross (2000). The two main focuses of this game are the graphics and smooth gameplay. The goal is really quite simple, the player with the most points in a certain amount of time wins. The way the rider wins is that he does as many tricks, and pulls them off nicely, as he can in a given time. The rider also has to use the course well. He can't just jump the same jump over and over. Instead the tracks have hundreds of different lines that you can take.

What makes the scoring in this game different than motocross games that have freestyle options is that instead of just doing a bunch of tricks in order for him to win, he has to also use the course well and land his tricks nicely.

There are many different modes to play such as practice, season, multiplayer, track editor, trick editor, and Create-a-rider. The way the track editor works is you can put jumps wherever you want. In motocross games the track editor feature isn't always easy to use. This is where this one differs from other editors. It's simple to use. There are a couple different jump types. You can pick from different faces of jumps based on degree. I mean that you can make the face of the jump at a 90 degree angle if you want or you can make it more like 45 degrees. The higher the angle the steeper the jump gets thus making the rider go higher. When you get the steepness you want you can choose to have a demonstration. There will be just a small clip of a bike jumping the jump. Thus making it easier to make the landing. If the rider jumps 90 feet then you have to make the landing well... 90 feet away from the face. You can have the option of making the face of the jump either a ramp or just regular dirt. That is pretty much the idea of the track editor. If you don't feel like making your own track you can use one of 10 tracks already created. There are ten officially liscensed tracks. Ranging from tracks on the vans triple crown of freestyle motocross series. Tracks from the Gravity games, and the ever famous pier 30/32 track from the x-games.

The first ever create a trick option is a plus to this game. Though it may be complicated it can be very promising. I'm not very sure how to do this but I have a pretty good idea. You can change the option of manipulating the part of the body that you want. Example being the right or left legs, right or left arms, back, head, the whole body, or just the bike. The way you move the body part is just using the D-Pad. To make your leg go from the peg to the other side of the bike you just simply either hold or tap the direction you want the leg to move. If you tap the up direction then your leg moves up One example is the can-can. The move is simply taking one leg and raising it up and over the seat to the other side of the bike so that both of your legs are on one side of the bike. The way to create this is to choose wich leg you want. Then you just tap the up direction until you have it at your desired spot then use the up and right directions at the same time to move your leg at an angle. Then once you have the leg over the seat then you can use the down and the right directions to finish the trick so that you have a full trick. After that instead of doing the opposite of what you just did to get the leg back over again you press the option to reverse and then the leg will go back exactly the way it came. I hope that is a good description of creating a trick.

Now on to the most important aspect of the game.... the tricks. There is a large amount of tricks that you can pull off. Most games there are only about 15 different tricks that you can choose from. In this game there is every trick that has ever been pulled off. Below are a list of all the tricks that I can think of that have been pulled off.

Can-can, nac-nac, no-footed can-can, heelclicker, handcuff, one-handed heel clicker, no-hander, no-footer, nothing, no-hander lander, superman, one-handed superman, triple no-footed can-can, pendulum, superman fender grab, double fender grab, whip, indian air, barhop, candy, saran wrap, stale-fish saran wrap, mcmetz, double candy, catwalk, hart attack, cliffhanger, cordova, banzai, lazyboy, steralizer, stoppie, one-hander, one-footer, airwalk, and the ever famous backflip. Those are almost all the tricks that have been pulled off.

The controls for each trick are quite easy. To do each trick you simply hold down one of the four major buttons, triangle, square, x, or circle. While holding the button you push one of the directions or the d-pad. You can also just hit the square, circle, triangle or x. You can also press more than one direction at a time. Their can also be variations. Meaning that if you do a heelclicker you can hold down the buttons which will keep you in the trick longer, or you can press the necessary buttons to do the trick with then once the trick is at it's peak you can press the same buttons again to start the trick from where it is and do it again. Here's an example. A double heel clicker is sometime two of the same trick. You can also consider one that once the rider clicks his heels over the bars and he starts to bring his legs back to the pegs then you can press the same trick combination again and he will click his heels again from the place in the trick that you hit the buttons at. That one is hard to explain but a demonstaration would be more helpful. You can also do more than one trick over the same jump. Example being that you can do a no-footer then do a no-hander during the time that your in the air. You can also do tricks on the ground. You can do either a stoppie where you do a wheelie on your front tire, or the usual wheelie. There is one more create option. The create a rider option consists of a couple of things. You can select their riding pants, helmet, riding jersey, chest protecter, boots, gloves, bike, and goggles. You can also edit their height, weight, and trick menu and rider name. There will be different styles of all those things to choose from. The trick menu is very easy to use. Each rider has 16 tricks they can choose their rider to use. So one rider can do a heelclicker and maybe another rider wouldn't be able to do that but they could do a superman. You can also set the controls for the tricks. If you want the superman to be square plus the up direction, and a heelclicker to be down and x then you can.

If you don't want to create your own rider you can choose from all the freestyle motocross riders. Travis Patrana, Mike Metzger, Carey hart, Tommy Clowers, Kris Rourke, Jeremy Stenburgh, Brian Deegan, Jeff Tilton, Kenny Bartram, Clifford Adaptante, Mike Cinqmars, Ronnie Faisst, Shawn highland, Mike Jones, Reagen Sieg, and Trevor Vines.

With an opening FMV that could be second to none, and all the options for this game could make a very promising title. I just wish I could get my idea to a game developer and see what they think of it. It would be a dream come true to actually work on this game and see it developed. But well I'm only 16 and what do i know about game development.

I don't know much about motocross, only been watching it a couple times on Eurosport. Looks very impressive. Neither have I been playing any of the motocross games available. I guess you have, so you probably know what you are talking about.
