Ceryn - MMOG Space Game - 3D, First Person Real-time Action, Strategy,
Role Playing Game
Hi there, This is the introductory line from a game I am busy designing
myself, needless to say, it is huge and was designed to be massively multiplayer
before the term was even coined. So here is the main intro and a few lines
on the concepts. :)) n-joy.

Imagine...
Imagine a Universe filled with warring Empires, a harsh and realistically
acting climate, technology only the most insane and destructive scientists
could ever devise, AI you could swear was alive, artistic representations
for all units and interfaces, a day and night portrayal for the most ruthless
beasts you'll ever meet face-to-interface, a mining operation that would
determine your wealth in a war for power and above all honour. This is
the Universe of Ceryn.

The Story
The Earth stayed about the same as we know it now for 350 years from which
point onward it was introduced to a substance called Ceryn which revolutionised
our concept of energy and time. This substance only retained it's value
in liquid form and had to be mined from the center our home-planet, Earth,
by huge mining platforms which were constructed as a co-ordinated effort
by the world Superpowers.
Ceryn was the key to inter-planetary travel as it released enormous amounts
of energy which, if properly channelled, allowed the breaching of the
Fabric of Time and Space, this channelling was called 'hyperspacing' (Sekuhla)
and required so-called 'hyperdrive engines'.
These 'hyperdrive engines' worked on the principles that if enough energy
was available for use in a sort of 'super magnet' a person could collapse
the Fabric of Time and Space and 'fold' across to another location if
the right amount of power was properly channelled. This 'hyperdrive engine'
was based on the theories behind black holes being gigantic gravity wells
and that objects 'swallowed' were in fact transported to another location
in space.
After a short period of time the world was united and started experimenting
and producing 'hyperdrive engines' and before we knew it we were travelling
distances that would've taken us years to travel in a matter of hours.
By breaching the Fabric of Time and Space we were able to travel to planets
beyond our wildest dreams and searched for hospitable worlds, new minerals
and a sign of other intelligent lifeforms.
Later during our exploration of space we made our first alien contact
with a species that also possessed spacefaring technology. They seemed
harmless at first but we learnt their true intentions once they attacked
Earth, their Ceryn resources had been depleted by their fleets of SpaceBattleShips
and they desperately sought new planets containing Ceryn to fuel their
campaign of conquest. Their attack was however anticipated by our leaders
and was therefor thwarted.
The next few centuries saw no further conflicts between the Zenthath and
us. We both found our stockpiles of Ceryn and spent it searching further
through the black empty void. During this time we built an Empire that
rivalled even the Zenthaths own.
Now, however, the precious substance has been spent and both us and the
Zenthath Empire are desperately fighting over the last Ceryn containing
planets.
After this war there will be no losing Empire, only an extinct one. "
Total Annihilation is not required, it is demanded." - Maj. Bennett Ichar
(Krull), after the razing of the last known cities of the Zenthath Empire
on Nibia 7.
Upon your login
ED (EarthDate) 28 June 2528
Whilst working underpaid for a group of colonists on the alien planet
of Gidion #120\34\32 you receive word from one of your informants of the
coming War. You log on to the Universal Mercenary Communication Network
hoping to find unimaginable riches and plenty of women with your next
job... Only 2 Empire Contracts are available at login. " There are only
two things of which a man can have too much, Friends and Enemies!"
- Mercenary Commander Jameson "Butch" Franko in an interview with iTV
before being found mangled in a toilet with the only fully intact remains
being his excrement.
The Game
Once the Players logon process has been completed at start of the Game,
he proceeds to choose which Empires contract he will accept and he is
emerged into the Storyline as he selects which Planet to proceed toward
and which Strategy to adopt while learning the Planets characteristics.
Each Planet has an Environment towards which he must adapt himself and
his troops in order to survive the harsh Universe mankind has come to
know as Home. The Player works for a set period of conquered Planets in
his contract, allowing him to swear a sort of allegiance to that Empire.
Once a Contract is fulfilled the Player can however switch to another
Empire for a new Contract. If he continues the existing Contract held
with an Empire he also gains a reputation with that Empire in the form
of new weapon advancements, vehicles and special favours. Ceryn is mostly
mined by gigantic moveable Mining Platforms which have to be moved every
now and then for the Mining operation to succeed, as Ceryn is liquid and
moves around in the Planets Core, this encourages the Player not to cheat
by dozing off and returning to the Game days later with a handful of money.
There are also two different types of troops available to the Player,
his own Mercenaries and the Empires troops. His Mercenaries have access
to all technology providing he researches a alien cultures weapon, vehicle,
technology or he purchases the Black Market goods for the right amount
of credits. The Player is also provided with a Construction Tool to fit
his troops and vehicles with the right weapons and armour before and during
his campaign, thereby making them available at the click of a Button in
the heat of battle. The Empires troops and vehicles cannot however be
modified to the players needs and must be used as-is, although the Empires
Commanders usually provide excellent combinations of weapons and armour
to the appropriate units. Once enough money is gained the Player can even
purchase property in the form of Training Bases, Research Stations, SpaceShips
and other military hardware.
Ceryn is translated in a value in Universal Credits and is used as the
Currency of Trade for Structures, Troops, Weapons, Vehicles and Technology
with the Empire in contract and Black Market dealers. The Storyline advances
with the Player as he/she changes allegiances and wins/loses battles for
the various Empires and can eventually, if the Idea attracts, even fight
on his/her own accord against all of the other Empires for complete and
absolute control of the remaining Ceryn stockpiles. Units are ordered
/ trained in groups of about 8 depending on type, but can be individual
or group controlled. The Game ends when all planets are owned completely
by one or another Empire, or all remaining Empires have expended their
resources, or the Player owns all Planets by right of battle, or the Player
surrenders due to a lack of funds.

Chapter 2.1 - A Overview of the Krull Empire
History... - The recent history of the Empire.
Appearance and Psychology... - The governing Races' appearance and mental
attitude toward life and other beings.
Technology... - The Military Technology employed by the Empire.
Units... - The structure of the Empires' Military.
Specials... - The Extraordinary characteri
stics present in the Race (The norm being the present day Human being).
Characteristics...
Planet of Origin...
Earth
History...
The Krull Empire consists of various human colonies and is scattered throughout
the universe. They have a strong belief in their religion and have learnt
the rules of survival in space the hard way when they were nearly annihilated
by the Zenthath Empire. The Krull have a very strict code of conduct that
is passed to all, even their children are taught to fight to the death
at a very young age. Appearance and Psychology... Minor changes have appeared
to the human body during the past centuries but they are still noticeable.
Humans have selectively bred their people making them more resistant and
stronger. The Krull now possess a pair of gills that separate oxygen from
liquid and their skin can withstand a greater amount of punishment. Warfare
is considered art and is practised from as early an age as six earth years,
leading to the development of ferocious warriors whose belief dictate
that they are the defenders of the human race and eradicators of everything
impure and must therefore be prepared to expend their lives if it will
help their Empire survive.
Technology...
The Krull have decided to stick with the proven design of particle acceleration
and have built their Militaries power with Particle Disrupter weapons.
They have a good damage potential and effective range of fire and are
uninhibited by ammunition requirements. Their most advanced technological
areas are energy, armour, weapons and genetic enhancements.
Units...
The Krull Militia is orientated toward Troopers since their expendability
surpasses any mechanized unit in cost and effectiveness therefor giving
the Krull Empire a bigger 'bang for the buck'.
Specials...
Beserker Rage... All Troopers are equipped with a satchel of chemicals
used to induce a state of frenzy and bloodlust reducing whatever damage
is caused to them by 1/3 and increasing the number of hand-to-hand attacks
per second by 1 (e.g. overall 2 attacks/sec). The bad side to this is
that the Krull body cannot withstand this overdose of toxins and will
begin to collapse and eventually drop dead. Water breathing... Krull Troopers
can breathe in water and thus do not need air-breathing equipment in liquid
environments that contain traces of oxygen.

and bodies to the warrior within. We the chosen, have taken this road
to cleanse the path of our destiny." - A poem taken from Krull Culture,
Deka 1-34 Aggressive Industrial Expansionists

attitude toward life and other beings.
Technology... - The Military Technology employed by the Empire.
Units... - The structure of the Empires' Military.
Specials... - The Extraordinary characteristics present in the Race (The

Characteristics...
Planet of Origin...
Kultharr
History...
The Zenthath Empire has been in existence for well over 3400 ED years.
Appearance and Psychology... The Zenthath consist of a large hunk of exposed
flesh and multiple tentacles which are used for movement and object manipulation.
This large mass of flesh contains their brains and other organs, Zenthath
do not possess any sense of sight, smell or hearing but rely totally on
their psionic ability. They are extremely psionically active and maintain
a strong link with each other at all times. They are not naturally aggressive
but do have a hatred for "the different" and are stubborn at times. The
Zenthath community is centered around the female Priestesses who are more
adept at psionics than the males and have the responsibilities to lead
and control the Zenthath Empire to victory. The males are more in number
and are bred wildly for battle by the Zenthath females.
Technology...
Their kind have preferred to concentrate on the defensive side of battle
technology rather than on the offensive side and they are thus still using
RipperBlade weapons with limited ammo regeneration. The technology is
very interfaced between biological and mechanical making their machinery
only partially affected by EMP blasts and biological weapons. Their most
advanced technological areas are guidance, navigation, biomechology and
propulsion.
Units...
They rely heavily on their Psychic Powers before any battle and use their
natural fast movement and fast firing RipperBlade Weapons Technology for
short but decisively strategic assaults.
Specials...
Psychic Communication... Detection of selected "target" of enemy unit,
Scrambling Enemy Orders, Disrupt Enemy Orders, Mind overpowering of enemy
Troopers Psycho Kinetic... Movement of inanimate objects (e.g., Giant
Rocks) Psychic Hallucinations... Creation of hallucinatory Bridges, Hills,
Troopers, Vehicles, etc. Dimension travelling... A Priestess can open
a dimension rift and allow all who pass through to become distorted between
dimensions becoming shadows in daytime and fully invisible at night-time.
The priestess can then travel to a location of her choosing and open another
portal through which the Zenthath can re-enter reality. The only drawbacks
are that a dimension rift can take several seconds to open, moving through
it prematurely can produce a slip in the dimension rift that causes it
to close or even dismember those passing through it, and only organic
living material may move through it.
Characteristics...
Average Male Height... 3, 5 m
Average Male Weight...280 kg without children, 430kg with children
Average Max. Male Age... 24 ED years
Average Female Height... 4, 7 m
Average Female Weight...460 kg
Average Max. Female Age... 461 ED years
Sexual Characteristics...
Children are naturally conceived by the Zenthath males who die from exhaustion
after conception. About twelve Zenthath children are born per male, and
any females are killed if there is no need for them to fill future positions.
Language... n/a (Telepathy)
Sight... No
Smell... No
Hearing... No
Other (Please Specify)... Telepathic Visualisation (Psychic Ability)
Chapter 3.4 - The Zenthath Doctrine
"To leave your enemies body intact is to let his soul transcend peacefully,
now we wouldn't want that, would we?"
- Priestess Ghas Myka'Hha Niurr, Previous High Priestess of Nibia 7 Colony
Religious Zealots
Chapter 4.1 - A Overview of the Daeldar Empire
History... - The recent history of the Empire Appearance and Psychology...
- The governing Races' appearance and mental attitude toward life and
other beings Technology... - The Military Technology employed by the Empire
Units... - The structure of the Empires' Military
Specials... - The Extraordinary characteristics present in the Race (The
norm being the present day Human being)
Characteristics...
Planet of Origin...
Originally from Earth and destined to colonize Thomas, but due to unknown
circumstances were stranded on Poseidon 12
History...
The Daeldar were the first human settlers sent to colonise a planet in
the outer reaches of space. Due the Earth's late development in HyperDrive
engines and the substance Ceryn, the colonists were placed in a cryogenic
sleeping state whilst their century long trip took place. Their presence
has only now been advertised by the swift eradication of a rival Empire.
Appearance and Psychology... No changes occurred whilst in the cryogenic
sleeping state, only to produce the purest generation of humans ever seen.
Their state has also not affected their ferocity and lust for war but
has made them very unpredictable and mentally unstable. The Daeldar have
developed into a nomadic, dark race who are always seeking expansion into
the unknown. They have no love for light and have thus evolved their sight
into a heat interpreting visual organ.
Technology...
The technology used seems outdated and very foreign but this should count
in their favour since these SPP weapons are truly devastating and savage.
Their only real limitation is the dependency on a constant streaming feed
of ammo.
Units...
Unlike their Krull counterparts the Daeldar concentrate on more Firepower
and less Armour to produce fast moving and hard striking Troopers. The
Daeldar also have a large fleet of robotic units that have been masterfully
converted from mere mining robots to sources of destruction. The Daeldar
have also become Beast Riders, riding what can range from Dragons to Tigers
to the Unknown.
Specials...
Advanced Movement/Tactics... Sneak, Hide, Distract/Dodge. Interconnected
Sub-Surface Tunnels... The Daeldar have learnt that to strike an enemy
where he least expects it will cause him/her/it the greatest damage. They
have developed large tunnel networks between their Citadels which allows
them to travel freely from place to place and to strike mercilessly. Nuclear
Armory Mechanical Adaptability... Because the Daeldar had to adapt tremendously
to a number of hostile worlds they have learnt all possible tricks to
outperform their machines. Units must be ordered to boost their machines
power output for a greater movement speed and then there are risks involved.
Beasts of Unseen Worlds

Average Male Weight... 85 kg
Average Max. Male Age... 64 ED years

Chapter 4.4 - The Daeldar Doctrine
"We are the Daeldar, emerged from sleep, restless in mind. You are the
Enemy, ruthless and destructive. And through us you will be seen to your

Chapter 5.1 - A Overview of the Renoghr Empire
History... - The recent history of the Empire.
Appearance and Psychology... - The governing Races' appearance and mental
attitude toward life and other beings.
Technology... - The Military Technology employed by the Empire.
Units... - The structure of the Empires' Military.
Specials... - The Extraordinary characteristics present in the Race (The
norm being the present day Human being).
Characteristics...
Planet of Origin...
Poelee
History...
Once enslaved machines of a ancient alien culture now a free ruling society
of machines seeking the attention of the other Empires. Their history
backdates any of the other Empires' and until now contact has been short
and violent. It is believed that the machines rebelled against their former
masters once a chaos virus struck their AI. Their owners were eradicated
from the universe and are now only left as mindless zombies controlled
by their own creations.
Appearance and Psychology...
The Renoghr are a pure metallically engineered and evolved Race. They
do not possess faces but are created optimally for whatever role they
were made for and are thus normally indistinguishable from one another.
Their Society and Psychology revolves around the full assimilation of
the all living life for a reason unknown to us.
Technology...
The Renoghr have absorbed their masters own weapons technology and made
considerable improvements on the designs producing a superior Ammo Regeneration
rate. Most Units are produced minuscule in size with a complement to maximise
their destructive potential.
Units...
Mindless zombie troopers are the Renoghrs most preferred choice of unit
on the battlefield and after the first assault their own elite troopers
sweep the wastes clean of any survivors.
Specials...
Assimilation... Small locally produced nanites are used on previous battle
locations to re-animate the bodies of the dead and reconstruct previous
machinery. Once the host has been destroyed the remaining nanites are
also destroyed. Each time a new nanite swarm appears over the used bodies
the available amount of matter decreases by ½. e.g. Originally 100 troopers
died at a certain location. Only 50 troopers can be re-animated by assimilation.
If those 50 undead are destroyed, another nanite swarm can only re-animate
25 undead. This continues until the bodies are decayed from the battlefield
or less than 1 trooper can be Assimilated. Generation Enhancements&
The longer the Renoghr are in play the more perfected their thoughts,
weapons, Movement becomes. For example& Every hour that the Renoghr
are playing in the Game, their unit characteristics increase until a maximum
is attained. This easily makes the Renoghr Empire the deadliest of them
all.
Characteristics...
Average Height... varies 0, 5 m
Average Weight... varies 20 kg
Max. Average Age... infinite ED years
Sexual Characteristics... Mechanical Assembly and Programming produce
their next generation which also enhance their basic characteristics.
Language... n/a (Unknown)
Chapter 6.1 - A Overview of the Jadrash Empire
History... - The recent history of the Empire.
Appearance and Psychology... - The governing Races' appearance and mental
attitude toward life and other beings.
Technology... - The Military Technology employed by the Empire.
Units... - The structure of the Empires' Military.
Specials... - The Extraordinary characteristics present in the Race (The
norm being the present day Human being).
Characteristics...
Planet of Origin...
Formerly Poelee, now located on Gathu 7
History...
These were the former masters of the Renoghr which have returned from
a cloaked planet on the outer reaches of Space to once more take control
of their rebellious machines. Whilst on their quest they have seen the
importance of the substance Ceryn and have taken the duty to rightfully
proclaim it theirs to keep.
Appearance and Psychology...
The Jadrash appear as worm like beings with four hands and eight short
legs. What sets them apart from the rest of the Empires is that the Jadrash
can regenerate their flesh and limbs over time.
Technology...
The technology used has many similar appearances to the Renoghrs' technology
as they both share a deep history.
Units...
The Jadrash Empire prefers the use of Assault Tanks than that of Troopers.
They have a larger arsenal of Units at their disposal and are adept in
every area of War.
Specials...
Health Regeneration... The Jadrash can regrow damaged organs/limbs after
a certain amount of time. Shape Shifting... Their Troopers can morph their
bodies into nearly any object as long as it is proportional to their Atomic
Size.
Characteristics...
Average Male Height... 2, 5 m
Average Male Weight... 110 kg
Average Max. Male Age& 6 ED months
Average Female Height... 2, 3 m
Average Female Weight... 95 kg
Average Max. Female Age& 3 ED months
Average Haba Height...0, 4 m
Average Haba Weight... 6 kg

Sexual Characteristics...The Jadrash reproduce via a animal (Haba) which
extracts the required chemical from the Males skin and transfers it to
the Females mouth. The Female gives birth to about 50 eggs from which
their Offspring emerge.
Language... Heshish
Chapter 20 - The Stages of Development
Ceryn is in fact a stage development but will produce a multi-area Income
Stage 1:
Stage 1 will consist of producing and publishing a Real-time Strategy
commander perspective game and making it accessible for upgrading and
modification.
Stage 2:
Stage 2 will consist of producing a Virtual Ceryn Universe where the player
can inspect anything he would normally find in Reality and then building
the Various engines to produce a game where the player can:
Build a Mercenary Unit and Hire it out to Commanders/Pirates/Shipping
Companies and if a conflict occurs he can jump into the eyes of the character
and take control of his subordinates.
Build a Pirate Base on a Planet/Asteroid and then raid various Depots/Shipping
Lanes and take control of his SpaceCraft personally or jump to the eye
perspective of his character.
Log-on and enlist in a Army. From there on he must pass various training
exercises which will rate his performance and then assign him a Rank and
a Location. This rank could be Controlling a BattleCruiser/Planet AeroCraft/SpaceCraft/Infantry/Tank
Driver/Empire Accountant/Empire General/Empire Commander.
Once Stage 2 has been completed the add-on will appear on a cheap Retail
CD and will only support Private Server/Internet Play.
Stage 3:
Stage 3 will consist of Providing Downloads for Players. (New Weapons,
SpaceCraft, AeroCraft, Careers and Missions) While Stage 3 is underway
Stage 4 will be Producing Ceryn 2.
Chapter 21 - Network, Internet, Modem, Serial
and Internet/Server URRPG
Network, Internet, Modem and Serial DirectPlay Network/Serial players
will have a choice of any Empire within the game. All units will be featured,
even special ones. These special units will be given once a set amount
of Ceryn has been shipped off-planet. Players can even choose to control
the wildlife of a planet as an extra gaming angle. A variety of choices
from AI players to planet/territory selection to provide many fun filled
hours of networking.
Ceryn will feature a 2nd Stage of development which will enable the Player
to play any role through the eyes of his/her character. This will produce
a game with multiple 3D engines (i.e. Flight Simulator, Space Flight Simulator,
Driving Simulator, First Person Perspective Simulator). This 2nd Stage
will then be supported by Private Servers and over the Internet. The 2nd
Stage will be called URRPG, short for UniversalReal-timeRolePlayingGame.
Internet Server/ LAN Server URRPG
UniversalReal-timeRolePlayingGame
The 2nd Stage of CERYN will involve a diverse universe containing even
the tiniest bit of information to immerse the Player in a Real-timeRolePlaying
game...
Once the Player is in possession of the CERYN Real-timeRolePlayingGame
he must then proceed to log on to a Server supporting the URRPG via the
Internet or LAN...
The Secret to the Games constant Realtime Motion is that all things are
made Computer Controlled and the Human will merely fill this position
with his own body and mind when logging on to the network.
When the Player first creates his alter-ego he must a answer a few questions
and complete a few trials to supply some statistics to his AI alter-ego.
The alter-ego will then act on the players behalf and perform as suitable
as possible in most situations. Basically this will amount to a Neural
Network existing as the Players alter-ego.
The different Servers can then be made distinct "Universal Regions" of
Space (ie.Sectors in Space). The UURPG edition will come with the standard
set of CERYN Universal Regions but the Server Administrator can also self-define
these Regions and create entire new galaxies.
The Servers will then each sport their own private information concerning
planets, metals, races and various other things. If the Player then migrates
to any of these other sectors then he automatically logs on that designated
server.
This will clear most problems of having a Server with too many clients
and will share the workload. The Servers will also have a standard time
for each sector in which they will upload all NonEssential information
to the main server but a constant update will be available for messaging
and other acts. This will create great loopholes for the players if they
wish to deceive or enact a raid and time themselves for a good escape.
ie. A Player (Oldby) who has established a good reputation plans to raid
a Zenthath Material Space Refinery. He then proceeds to hire a New Player
(Newby) who has no idea why he was sent a message to destroy a Ship leaving
this Refinery but he wants to do it since there is a very large sum of
money involved. The Newby has now attacked the Ship and it takes the local
Militia about 5 minutes to arrive. The Militia destroys the Newby's Ship
and the Oldby now has information on approximatly how long it takes them
to reach the Refinery and retaliate. He then hires a pirate gang to raid
the Base and flees with the cargo all in the knowledge that the Milita
will not be able to trace his Hyperspace jump within only 1 minute.
***************************************************************
These are just some of the races, the total number of races in the game
will probably amount to about 8-10 with very different (not c&c half-arsed
style) units.

As Marco Biermann has mentioned, Ceryn is
already in development. Marco is currently working on Ceryn himself and
was hoping for some feedback from our readers. We suggest you send him
an e-mail with your thoughts
of improvements. The impression I have so far is that Ceryn is going to
be a fabulous game.
