In Lucid Armro Quest, you paly the role of Etch, a curious teenager who wants to be a treasure-hunter and go on adventures. Etech was exploring around the forbidden mountains one day and heard a voice calling him. The voice belonged to a dragon trapped inside cave blocked by a boulder. Etch moved the rock and the dragon thanked him and gave him a green poncho with a gold emblem on the chest. The emblem meant "enlightenment." The dragon sent Etch to his home village Oldrack to fetch him some meat and water. On his way out of the village, Etch had to fight the village bully, Biglad. Etch's poncho gave off a flash of light and he became ten times stronger and knocked Biglad out with a single blow. Etch gave the dragon his meat and water and the dragon gave him a plastic toy sword with flickering lights and sound effects.
That night, Oldrack village was attacked by a ferocious dragon. Etch slept through the fire and pandemoneum. The next day, the villagers and the village elder met and concluded that Etch freed the dragon from his cave prison and was responsible for the attack. Etch was accused of being a sorcerer because of his toy sword with lights and sound effects. A royal scout from the court of Tyral Kingdom saved Etch from being burned at the stake. He told Etch there was a prophecy about a squire with a screaming sword, bearing the crest of enlightenment, who would gather the eight scattered pieces of the Lucid Armor. The Lucid Armor consisted of the crown, sword, shield, left and right gauntlets, left and right solerets, and breatplate.
King Tyral explained that it was Etch's job to enter the Lucid Labyrinth and find the eight pieces of the armor so that his son, Prince Kay, could don the Lucid Armor and seal the dragon once again. Etch entered the labyrinth and was able to get passed obstacles that other men could not. The crest on his poncho allowed him to jump farther than normal (Double Jump), see events happening in slow motion (Dream Time), repell attacks with mind power alone (Telekinetic Guard), and smite his enemies with the sound of his toy sword echoing in the walls of the Lucid Labyrinth (Sonic Slasher, Sonic Ricochet, Cyclone Cutter).
The twist in the plot occurs after the eight pieces of the armor are collected. When Etch gave Prince Kay all the pieces, he tried to fight the dragon and got killed instantly. King Tyral had Etch jailed for giving his son fake armor. Etch's crest of enlightenment started talking with the dragon's voice. It said that the Lucid Armor was just a fake. The crest of enlightenment was what gave it its power. Objects, clothes, and accessories bearing the crest were really the artifacts of an advanced civilization that collapsed eons ago but left behind their technology.
Etch used all of his new found abilities from wearing the crest of enlightenment to escape the jail and go to the cave of the dragon where the whole thing began. The dragon he once saw was dead. Etch found out that it was just a puppet and the man behind it was Kronos, the lost wiseman spoken of in legends. Kronos said his puppet dragon was just a warning. He told Etch that the real dragon was headed for East Kingdom. He gave Etch a white horse named Seraphim and told him to ride east and stop the dragon. When he arrived the damage had already been done. However, there were also reports of a giant serpent named Quetzal dwelling under East Kingdom causing earthquakes. Etch traveled underground and slew Quetzal but did not find the dragon, so he returned to Kronos' cave. Basically, Kronos sent Etch to the West, North, and South kingdoms as well, searching for the dragon. Finally, Kronos explained that he was the dragon. Kronos appeared to transform into the dragon and attacked Etch. Etch defeated him and he turned back into Kronos. Kronos explained that there was no dragon, only men who could outsmart other men. The dragon was simply anyone who wore the crest of enlightenment. The crest gave its wearer great power but also caused dragons and demons to manifest wherever the wearer traveled. That was why Kronos sealed himself in that cave behind a rock in the first place. Etch now had two options: seal himself away, destroy himself, or cast the crest in the sea. You, the player get to decide which.
