ENGELKRIEG: THE MILLENNIUM WAR

STORY:

It is 1000 years in the future and the prophecies were wrong. Armageddon did come, but the final battle did not occur when mankind was led to believe it would. The battle was fought on earth…and is still being fought.

The traitor Megiddo broke his pact and allied with the Lord of Darkness and his legions of Demons and Fallen angels. Without warning they flooded the human realm and began to turn the earth into a desolate wasteland, drawing power from the souls of the human masses they conquered The Archangels led their armies of the heavenly host down to earth but alas they were too late to prevent the cataclysm. Their only choice was to combat the forces of the Hell. In the resulting first battle, the grand armies of Heaven and Hell clashed with a fury and left the earth in ruins. The world was created in 7 days and so it was destroyed. Scattered among the wastes were human survivors that banded into small groups to survive their cursed existence. Among these people religion became their sole means of coping with the horrors of life. This is how they existed over the centuries of war after technology and government became a distant memory. Faith became both their armor and weapon, with the angels as their protectors.

The war began 1000 years ago and shows no sign of conclusion. Until a miracle occurs- rumors of a Messiah begin to spread among the survivors. Word goes around that a young man has the ability to resurrect the dead, walk on water, and cure the sick. These rumors are further enforced when the young man’s village is attacked by a squad of lesser demons and they are annihilated by a blinding light unleashed by him. Thus, the humans and their protectors, the angels, set plans into motion to finally end the war. It was time to test the so-called Messiah and see if he alone could lead mankind to salvation and end the Millennium War.

The main character, also known as the Messiah, goes by the name Adam. He was born in the community of Antioch, one of the largest human communities. He is set forth by religious leaders to journey to the sacred place where man first drew breath upon the earth (Eden). He is not alone in his journey, he is granted the aid of a guardian by the name of Cassiel, a female angelic warrior.

At the same time, the Archangels, leaders of the armies of Heaven, are staging a final push into the heart of the corrupted domain of the forces of darkness. Led by the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the other archangels-Remiel, Raguel, Uriel, and Azrael- each lead their forces in an attempt to drive back the demons and fallen that inhabit the wastelands, clearing the way for the Messiah to reach Eden.

GAMEPLAY:

Adam’s game will be in the style of a 3rd person action/adventure game like Devil May Cry, both Adam and Cassiel will be playable in his portions. While Adam is a capable fighter, his power lies within his divine gifts: blasts of searing light, healing, protective barriers, levitation, lightning bolts, etc. Ariel excels in the field of melee combat using a sword and shield or spear, and ranged combat with a bow and arrows. Naturally she also has her own divine abilities of a more offensive nature such as turning enemies to salt or boiling their blood. Obviously she is also able to fly due to her wings. Both characters will be together throughout the game and play will switch between either character at the press of a button.

When playing as the Archangels, the gameplay will be a cross between Dynasty Warriors and Zone of the Enders. You will control an Archangel who serves as a general to an angelic army and you wage war against a horde of hellish foes. Battles will take place high above the wastelands or sometimes amidst the ruins of civilization. Basic orders can be given to troops and each general has specific abilities at their disposal. For example, Gabriel’s powers are offensive in nature and he may incinerate his enemies, Raphael may heal and protect his soldiers, Azrael calls upon the Scythe of the Reaper to harvest the apostate souls of the damned, and Uriel can summon a supernatural plague that eats away at the demons.

Obviously I’m not going into great amounts of detail here, but I can say that the story will benefit from the game’s apocalyptic atmosphere, as there will be grand battles as well as treachery and betrayal among the ranks of the angels. There is much to be left to the imagination. Please note that names such as God, Satan, Jesus, and references to any specific religion are not in the game. Seeing as how this is just a rough sketch of the games design, feel free to comment on it or email me if u have any specific questions. Lastly, just remember that this is only a game idea, it does not reflect my own religious beliefs or anything like that.

The name of the game: Engelkrieg, translates from german into “Angel War”.

I just wanted to clarify to people who Megiddo is. In some religious sources, Armageddon is a plane that belongs to a being named Megiddo. Therefore, Armageddon is a place rather than an event, it's the place where the final battle is fought. Hope that clears that part up. If u have any questions just ask.

When I first started reading this idea, the Messiah seemed similar to Neo (The One) in The Matrix; but then again, isn't that why they made the movie in the first place? I admire your work, let alone your talent and imagination. I myself am an online/ RPG player, but you've inspired me to turn over a new leaf. Hope to play one of these games of yours soon.

You have two games here: one devil may cry and one dynasty warriors. It's harsh, but I would actually dump the DMC bits entirely and put Adam and Cassiel as two more generals on the battlefield. Splitting development time between two game modes is a good way to get two half-baked half-games. If instead, the army bits are concentrated on, with all the different powers the angels have and the variety of demons you could be facing, it could end up as a VERY interesting game, whith more than enough to seperate it from DW4.
