REDEMPTION
STORY:
The world is a cold place, a dark place. The people that live in it are never lacking in their capacity to sin, they only fall short in their ability to have faith. In a world where morality is a lost cause there is little that can happen to make matters worse… until a long forgotten cult draws upon the essence of man’s sinful nature. Calling upon every evil deed man is capable of they summon the incarnations of the seven deadly sins unto the world of man: Greed, Lust, Pride, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, and Wrath. Concealing their true natures under the guise of human beings they begin to sow the seeds of sin in the heart of man, woman, and child.
One man, Detective Jason Bishop, has paid a high price. He returns home one day to find his wife and two children brutally murdered and mutilated in his own home. Never had he seen such a more decadent display of insane violence and twisted cruelty while working on the police force. Now a broken shell of a man, he quits the force and attempts to take his own life. He ascends to the roof of his apartment building in the pouring rain, amidst the clash of thunder and lightning in the night sky. Putting the pistol to his temple he whispers, “forgive me”, and prepares to pull the trigger. Just at that moment a bolt of lighting strikes down on the building top in a blinding flash, being pulled toward the nearby lightning rod. In that moment Jason is startled and drops his gun off the side of the roof. He takes it as a sign that he is not meant to die and falls to his knees in tears.
Flash forward three months later, a string of murders bizarrely similar to that of his family’s are reported in the newspapers. Something stirs inside of him, perhaps anger, perhaps sorrow, but he resumes his place as Detective in the police force in order to investigate the murders. The murders are only part of a much larger scheme. Jason befriends a local church investigator and learns of the existence of the sinful incarnations that walk amongst the people of the city. Little by little he is pulled deeper into the struggle between good and evil. His mission started out as simply being revenge-the wish to punish whoever was responsible for the brutal deaths of his family- now his mission is one with a higher purpose-to redeem his own soul and the souls of the sinful beings that plague mankind. The Redemption is at hand.
GAMEPLAY:
This game will play and look similar to Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Nocturne, but would also contain some elements of games like Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry. The game will focus on some exploration and tracking of clues, the game won’t really feature puzzles like Resident Evil does since those are highly unrealistic, but u will have to do detective work in a way to determine where to go next…and who the true incarnations really are (remember they are in disguise). The game will not be large on the scale of GTA, but it will have large environments that u visit around the city, think more like Parasite Eve. Of course many of the environments will be dark and creepy, from dirty slum apartments and subway stations to sewers and night-time city parks. You can imagine wandering around dark slum alleys in the pouring rain carrying a gun in one hand and a flashlight in the other. The game’s music would be eerie and moody, sometimes gothic and more rock and roll in combat.
Combat would be handled using mostly firearms: starting with a simple handgun and perhaps gaining use of shotguns, submachine guns, crossbows, and rifles. Weapons would not include over the top guns like flamethrowers or grenade launchers. Some melee weapons may be included, such as a fire axe (like firemen use), combat knife (from jason’s time in the military), or a blessed longsword (gift from his friend at the church). Control would be free moving, press a direction and u move in that direction, and u could lock on to enemies in order to strafe and roll in combat. Jason, being a cop, is skilled with guns and trained in such maneuvers, but obviously he’s not some commando so his moves will be realistic. But I must mention that the game has a strong supernatural theme as well which becomes more evident as it goes on. As the game progresses Jason will regain some of his faith and be empowered by it in a sense. They won’t exactly be activated abilities, but rather additions to his own abilities. He will become tougher, faster, stronger, more perceptive of the incarnations. He’ll be able to see that which normal people do not, and he’ll be able to resist sin. His goal is to defeat each incarnation of sin, and each will have its own minions that will try to prevent him from doing so, since each incarnation has a weakness which must be exploited to defeat them.
Each incarnation will vary greatly when in its true form. Wrath appears as a metallic being composed of various spikes and blades, with one hand being a mesh of whirling blades and the other a spiked mace that extends on a chain. Lust appears as a seductive woman, physically perfect in every way, who seduces men and drains their life force. Gluttony will appear as a grotesquely fat, putrid creature that consumes all in its path, always hungering for more. Since each incarnation personifies it’s sin, they will be able to incite the same sin in other beings (Wrath may enrage others and promote acts of violence, Lust may cause people to become aroused and cause uncontrollable lust within others). Just as well their human disguises will be closely related to their nature- while Greed may be someone like a lawyer, Sloth may be a homeless person, and Wrath could be a homicidal maniac… The minions will share some similar characteristics, and will range from humans and zombies to demonic entities of sorts. By the end of the story Jason will realize his purpose and finally confront his family’s killer. What happens afterward remains to be seen…
Well that’s about it for my idea. I really hope that with all of my ideas which are sometimes graphic (Nightmares) or refer to religion (Engelkrieg), that people don’t take them too seriously and are not offended. Please tell me what u think and if u have any questions feel free to ask away. There are plenty more details to be added.
