Game Art & Design Degree
Westwoods’s game art & design program will teach you everything you will need to know before you apply for a job in the game industry.
Main Idea:
This is a game similar to Operation Flashpoint and Battlefield 1942, in terms of total control of units. Players will be able to walk on land as infantry, drive tanks, fly planes, command ships, etc. This game should have an Empire Earth base, meaning the units will not just spawn out of nowhere on the map, but they will be produced at Barracks and Tank Factories and Airfields and Docks. The battle units will be controlled by all the people who join the game, in first person. The non-battle units (people who gather resources to build stuff, who repair things, buildings, etc) will be controlled by one main commander of the game (each side, team, etc).
More Detail:
The individual battle units will be controlled by each person separately. Let's say in the game there are 3 soldiers, 2 tanks, a bomber plane, and a fighter plane. This will require 8 people to control them all - 7 for the military units listed and one commanding player for all the non-military management. To have these units in the first place, the commanding player would have to build these from the appropriate places - soldiers from barracks, planes from airfields, etc. There would be many units, and each would have their distinct differences. There should be a big difference between a machine gun infantry and a sniper - different speeds, armour, attack, range, HP, etc. Also, the commanding unit might want to advance epochs (Empire Earth, Age of Empires, many other strategy games). This would upgrade the existing units, and allow production of better new units. The time frame for this game might be somewhere from the Industrial Age (1700-1900) to modern ages.
Possible Units:
- Industrial Age
- Land
- Mushketeer - rifle
- Sniper - long-range weapon
- Engineer - repairs non-live units?
- Sea
- Transport
- Some battleships? Sorry, I'm not very familiar with this time
- Air
- Hot Air Balloon
- Early planes - hard to control, crash often?
- World War 1
- Land
- Marines - rifle
- Sniper - long-range weapon
- Engineer
- Machine gunner - 2 people to carry?
- Other infantry
- Tanks
- Anti-air tanks - manned or unmanned?
- Transport trucks - different types, with different capacities, etc
- Sea
- Transport - different types, with different capacities, etc
- Battleships - ?
- Submarines - anti-sub, anti-air, long-range
- Air
- Fighters - very fragile, crash less often than before but still a lot, a bit easier to control than before
- Bombers - cluster bombs, fragile, hard to control, slow, bombs area effect of ?
- Others
- World War 2
- Land
- Marines - rifle
- Sniper - long-range weapon
- Engineer
- Machine gunner - easier carried, more accurate
- Other infantry
- New tanks
- Anti-air tanks - manned or unmanned?
- Transport trucks - faster, bigger, stronger, could be fired out of by infantry?
- Scout jeeps?
- Sea
- Transport - better than before, faster, stronger, could be fired out of?
- Battleships - ?
- Submarines - anti-sub, anti-air, long-range, hard to detect
- Air
- Fighters - better than before, durable, fast, strong, new weapons?
- Bombers - cluster bombs, nuclear bombs (very expensive, takes long time to build, very slow bomber
- Helicopters - anti-air, anti-ground, anti-sea, hybrid?
- Paratroopers
- Transport helicopters, planes
- Modern Age
- Land
- Marines - rifle
- Sniper - long-range weapon
- Engineer
- Machine gunner - very useful for large armies
- Other infantry
- New tanks
- Anti-air tanks - manned or unmanned?
- Transport trucks - excellent transport trucks
- Good scout units (jeeps?)
- Sea
- Transport - excellent speed, armour, could be fired out of
- Whatever ships exist now, I don't know, sorry
- Submarines - anti-sub, anti-air, long-range, stealth, hybrid?
- Air
- Fighters - excellent speed, maneuverability, attack, armour, many people inside?
- Bombers - stealth bombers, nuclear bombers (still slow, still fragile, rarely used), cluster bombs, etc
- Helicopters - excellent maneuverability, speed, attack, armour
- Transport helicopters, planes, etc
- Paratroopers
Possible Buildings:
- Barracks
- Airfield
- Dock
- Towers - manned or unmanned - could be entered by infantry
- Walls
- Gates
- Anti-Aircraft turrets - manned or unmanned
Summary:
- Players can fight on land, sea, air
- 1 commanding player for each team in each game
- Big differences between types of units - fighters and bombers can't both do inverse 360's etc
- Advancing epochs
- Resource gathering for building of units
That pretty much concludes my dream game. I don't think there would be too many problems with lag - look at other games like these - Battlefield 1942, so many people and not too much lag, etc.
I hope someone makes this game real, and publishes it. I can't wait to play!
This idea is obviously free, I would claim no legal rights to it if someone tries to make it... really! I don't own a copyright for this, or anything, etc.
Thank you for reading this.
