Devil May Cry 3 (A Ki Tanaka/Badguy Production)

Welcome and thanks a lot for choosing to read my idea, although it isn’t the only DMC3 idea (and I know, you all probably want to see more original ideas – which are on their way soon). Ever since it debuted, I loved the original adventure with Dante Sparda, and I liked the sequel (give it a rest, it was a decent game if you don’t like it as a sequel) regardless of what anyone said. Though yes, I do think the first was better.

But enough about that, you want to see an idea, and not my stupid introduction. So in the words of the great Son of Sparda, “Let’s Rock, Baby!!”

First off, the Controls:

X Button: Confirms Selection (In Menus) / Check / Opens Doors / Uses Key Items (When Needed).

O Button: Cancels Selection (In Menus) / Melee Attack (Sword, Etc;).

/\ (Triangle) Button: Jump / Dodge Action (While Holding R1).

|_| (Square) Button: Shoot.

R1 Button: Lock-On.

R2 Button: Quick Enemy Data Check (While Locked Onto An Enemy). You can check the information about the enemy you are fighting, information is to be gathered whenever something new is discovered about the enemy (ala the original game).

R3 Button: First-Person View (To Look Around). This can be helpful with finding hidden items and for checking the environments for hidden areas.

L1 Button: Devil Trigger.

L2 Button: Check Map.

L3 Button: Change Devil Arms (in the heat of exploration and the heat of battle).

Left Analog Stick: Move Player.

Right Analog Stick: No Use.

Directional Buttons: Choose Super Attack (While Devil Triggered) / Change Melee Attack Pattern (While Performing a Melee Combo) / Change Gun Attack Pattern (While Firing Gun(s)).

Start Button: Open Menu Screen / Exit Menu Screen.

Select Button: Open Pause Menu / Exit Pause Menu.

So, How Would this Game Play Out??

The game would be broken up into missions (like the other two installments of this series), and would retain the free-roaming aspects of the original. Personally, I enjoyed the free-roaming mission-based system; but why don’t we make the game world bigger, let’s also have warp points here and there incase you don’t want to travel for a long time to get to certain areas. The action would be similar to the first and second, borrowing certain elements from both.

Story Time, Kids (In The Form of A Script):

(Camera descends upon the city, watching the people go about their nightlife)

Narration: 2000 years ago, an invisible war was fought between the Mortal forces of the Human world and the forces of Hell. At that time, Mundus was the ruler of Hell and wanted to expand his rule into the Human realm. But there was a legendary dark night, a demon warrior who stood up for the humans because he felt sympathetic towards their fragile lives…the warrior’s name was Sparda…2000 years later, Mundus tried to gain control of the Human world again, and the Son of Sparda thwarted the devil ruler’s plan and banished him for another 2000 years.

(A telephone rings in a small office: Devil Never Cry, but nobody is there to pick it up. You hear running in the streets and splashing in the rain puddles. There is a chase.)

Man: Damn, what do you want??!! (Shrieks of horror)

(There are roars in the streets, and not normal roars. There is sound of a single gunshot and blood splattering against a wall. A demon falls into a puddle, the demon was shot in the head.)

Dante: You should be more careful at night, there are a lot of freaks out at these hours. (Dante holsters Ebony.)

Man: Thank you, but who are you?

Dante: Heh, I’m their worst nightmare. (Walks into the distance.)

(Dante returns to DNC as Trish is wrapped in a towel after a shower.)

Trish: Business as usual?

Dante: Yeah, just a small disagreement between some people in the streets. (Puts Force Edge back on the wall.)

(The phone rings, Trish picks it up.)

Trish: Devil Never Cry, we’re now open 24/7, what can we help you with?

Voice: My name is Balder, and I’d like to meet you in seven [note from Ki: consider the importance of the number seven. In many magic and mystical scriptures, seven is a very important number. In the Christian belief, and maybe others, it is the number of God.] days at the given location. (A fax comes in with a map of a fair sized island in the middle of the Pacific.)

Dante: Tell him we’ll be there, I have a feeling this will be one of those “special” jobs.

(Seven days pass and Dante and Trish arrive on the nameless island, seeming to once have been inhabited by various cultures.)

Balder: I’m glad you could come, you see, a Hell Gate was prophesized to open in this area soon. Demons have already appeared, but most of our forces were able to drive them back. I am a high ranking officer in the military placement on this godforsaken island, many of my soldiers died during the most recent battle and I had heard rumors about a devil hunter unlike any other exorcist or anything like that. We were originally part of a colonization attempt at this island, and we also lost contact recently when the demons started appearing.

Dante: So there are civilians here?

Trish: Is anyone watching these people?

Balder: Yes, we have armed guards throughout the main city…although, all the other towns and cities have been deserted and destroyed by the demons. We are running low on ammunition and supplies too…things are looking very bad for us.

Dante: I can imagine. We’ll go down with you to the city help out, but then we’re going up there. (Points up at the castle on the mountain.)

Balder: Good, I had a good feeling about you.

(The first mission starts after that.)

Let’s Meet Our Cast of Characters:

Dante: This Badass, Trash-Talking, Devil-Hunter runs a detective agency and is also an underground mercenary who well…hunts Devils. Wielding his custom twin-pistols and his long sword Force Edge (a memento of his father Sparda) to deal with demons, devils, the undead and anything else that opposes him.

Trish: Originally created by Mundus as a copy of Dante’s mother (to lure him to Mallet Island, or rather, where a portal to the underworld would open on Earth), Eva; Trish now works as Dante’s partner. She wields twin-pistols as well, Luce and Ombra. Technically a full demon, her true powers are not accessible in the human world (so her DT is not unlimited, unless she’s the underworld).

Bael: According to the le Grand Grimoire, Bael is the head of the infernal powers. He is also the first demon listed in Wierus' Pseudomonarchia daemonum. According to Wierus, Bael is first king of hell with estates in the East. He has three heads: a toad, a man, and a cat. He also speaks in a raucous, but well formed voice, and commands 66 legions. Bael teaches the art of invisibility, and may be the equivalent of Baal (He is the final boss, sorry for that spoiler kiddies).

A List of Public Enemies:

Marionette: Evil spirits possesses these giant puppets. They wield crescent shaped throwing blades, triangular throwing blades, and sometimes even small shotguns. Attacks: Throw Blade, Shoot Gun, Screech (hangs player on strings, so that they are open for attack), Cycle Slash (spins around in a circle and slashes at anything in it’s path), and they can latch onto the player and start slashing and stabbing them.

Bloody Mari: Bloodstained versions of Marionettes. They have increased power and speed, and appear to be a bit smarter. Attacks: the same as Marionettes, only stronger.

Hellhound: A fiery doglike demon that attacks manipulating its substance (kinda like the Shadows from the original DMC). Attacks: Tackle, Shadow Spear (a row of fiery spears fire up from the ground), Fireball, Self-Destruct (need I say?? The thing latches onto you, explodes and does as much damage as it can).

Sins: Everyone's favourite low class reaper-like demons are back, this time with more fluid cloaks (and if you call now...just kidding folks...)! Let's see, there's Sin Scissors, Sin Scythes, and my new favourite: Sin Executioners (with giant Axes that can be thrown, oh joy!). Attacks: All the same from the original, except for the additions for the Executioners - who can Throw Axe, Vortex (kinda self-explanatory, spinning in a 360 degree movement with axe blade), and various slashes.

Deaths (The advanced Sins): Essentially the same, no new additions yet.

Grimoire Masters: Spell casters of the ancient black magic, capable of summoning the five elemental forces to attack (it's a sub-boss that appears frequently). By saying dark hymns and calling forth the elementals of Hell, they are a clever and powerful being. Attacks: Pentagram Bomber (a powerful and explosive multi-elemental attack that tracks the player, but can be shaken off with quick movements after the target area has been chosen), Page Binding (pages from his/her book will bind the player, and unless they can escape quickly, the next attack will be done), Page Binding + Bon Voyage (Page Binding completed with an immense fiery bolt from the sky, less damage is done if Ifrit is equipped).

Golems: No, not savage golems, but rather creatures made of various materials (specifically metals, rocks, and sands). Golems found in game: Bronze Golems, Steel Golems, Obsidian Golems, and Gold Golems  (order in strength Obsidian, Bronze, Steel, Gold). Attacks: Punches (nothing special, just really powerful depending on the Golem), Constrict (it grabs the player and starts squeezing them, the player can escape using their defensive attack), Self-Destruct (does immense damage to player if he or she is within range, kills the Golem).

Dante:

Note about Dante: he starts with Alastor maxed out, but those two are taken from him in the first mission by Bael's second-in-command.

Default Devil Arms: Force Edge (Incapable of DT, sorry).

Default Guns: Ebony and Ivory.

Starting Items: Amulet Complete (when in DT, while in critical health; this item activates the Super DT form), one Vital Star, and one Holy Water (kills or deals critical damage to enemies within range).

Abilities:

Round-Trip Lvl 1: Hold R1, press and hold the O Button until Dante throws his sword or any other bladed weapon he has (warning: only Dante’s true weapons can come back)(There are 3 Lvls of this attack, the higher the Lvl, the greater the distance).

Stinger Lvl 1: Hold R1, move forward and hit the O Button; Dante will stab forward (There are 3 Lvls of this attack, the higher the Lvl, the greater the distance).

High Time: Hold R1, move back and hit the O Button to knock enemies up…if you press Triangle harder, Dante will go up with them.

Defensive Strike: If an enemy is latched onto you, keep tapping the O Button and eventually Dante will grab his blade and slice the enemy off and forward, causing great damage to the enemy.

Air Hike Lvl 1: While performing a jump, tap Triangle again while in mid-air to jump higher (there are 3 Lvls of this ability, the higher the Lvl, the more jumps you can perform).

Kick Jump: While jumping against a wall or enemy, when close enough you can hit Triangle again to kick jump off of the enemy or wall.

Rain Storm: While performing Air Hike, at the peak of your jump: hold R1 and keep pressing Square to start shooting upside-down (must be right above enemy, or enemies).

Around-the-Back Shot: While shooting (holding R1 and pressing Square, obviously), if there is an enemy to your left, point the Left Analog Stick in the direction of the enemy and Dante will move his right arm around his back (to shoot at the enemy to the left) and will keep shooting at the enemy in front of him with gun in left arm.

Over-the-Shoulder Shot: While shooting (holding R1 and pressing Square, obviously), if there is an enemy behind you, point the Left Analog Stick in the direction of the enemy and Dante will move his right arm over his shoulder (to shoot at the enemy) and will also continue shooting at the enemy in front of him with gun in left arm.

Arm-Over-Arm Shot: While shooting (holding R1 and pressing Square, obviously), if there is an enemy to your right, point the Left Analog Stick in the direction of the enemy and Dante will cross his left arm over his right arm (to shoot at the enemy to the left) and will keep shooting at the enemy in front of him with gun in right arm.

Trish:

Default Guns: Luce and Ombra (twin handguns).

Default Melee: Punch/Kick Attacks.

Default Items: Same as Dante, just instead of Holy Water she has one Devil Star.

Abilities:

Charged Punches/Kicks: While holding R1, hold the Circle Button and Trish will charge each of her attacks, making them stronger (warning: this leaves you vulnerable to enemy attacks).

Kick 13 Lvl 1: Hold R1, move the LAS (Left Analog Stick) towards Trish’s front and hit Circle to release a very powerful roundhouse kick that can knock enemies away (if knocked into a wall or other enemies, it does more damage)(just like all other attacks with Lvls there are 3 Lvls for this one, and the higher the Lvl, the stronger the attack).

Magma Drive Lvl 1: Hold R1, move the LAS (Left Analog Stick) towards Trish’s back and hit Circle to release a very powerful uppercut that can knock enemies up (just like all other attacks with Lvls there are 3 Lvls for this one, and the higher the Lvl, the stronger the attack).

Homing Kick: While in midair, hold R1 and hit Circle to perform a diving kick flying down at the nearest enemy.

Defensive Strike: While an enemy is latched onto you, start tapping Circle until Trish flips over onto the enemy’s back and snaps their head off.

Spin-Flip-Point-Blank: While shooting, jump forwards over an enemy and Trish will spin in midair and land behind the enemy with one of her guns pointed at the enemy (the game goes into something like a cut scene, press Square to fire the killing shot).

Arm-Over-Arm Shot: While shooting, if there is an enemy to your right, point the LAS in the direction of the enemy and Trish will cross her left arm over her right arm (to shoot at the enemy to the left) and will keep shooting at the enemy in front of him with gun in right arm.

Umm, You May Want to Dodge That:

Remember in DMC2, how you could dodge certain enemy attacks at the hit of a button? Wouldn’t it be nice if that would return, yet cooler, and capable of being linked to other actions (so that they add to your combo ranking)?

Back flip: While locked onto an enemy, hold the LAS towards your character’s back and hit Triangle to perform a back flip.

Frontal Leap: While locked onto an enemy, hold the LAS towards your character’s front and hit Triangle to perform a jump over your enemy.

Arial-Cartwheel: While locked onto an enemy, hold the LAS towards either side of your character and hit Triangle to cartwheel (with no hands mind you) up and over to the side.

Not So Plain-and-Simple Level Design:

World design is going back to its old gothic-style roots. If I haven’t mentioned it already, I’ll do so now (…and if I already have, well…): the mission system returns but in the glory that the original had, you’re free to explore during missions, and you’re not all of a sudden warped somewhere (ala certain parts in DMC2). There will be a small near deserted town below the main area, and that’s where Dante or Trish will start off. Objects in the background are still smashable (sic) and you can slam enemies into objects to do additional damage.

Much more to come soon! I have a lot of additions to make, so keep reading!

I really like this idea. This is what they should've done to Devil May Cry 2(I love that game regardless). The only thing I didn't see was a plot, but you said more was coming, so I'm looking foward to that next.

I like the addition of the plot, because now I know what's going on. One thing puzzles me though, this idea has been on here quite a while, and I'm the only one who commented it. Odd...hmm, well anyway I've liked this idea since I first read it and that tells me you can put a game together well. That's a talent you could use in the gaming industry. The thing I thought was neat was you knew those names, like le Grand Grimoire, and the Pseudomonarchia daemonum. I thought I knew a lot about DMC, but wow! I have a DMC3 game idea myself. It's called Devil May Cry, The Legend Lives On. Check it out when it's posted in a couple of days, if you can.
