Tetris is probably one of the greatest games ever created. Unfortunately, it has been overcome by newer, more graphically pleasing, and supposedly ‘better’ games. Why not add Tetris to the growing list of three dimensional games? Still, one question remains: what can we do with a bunch of blocks? It’s quite simple, really. Instead of having Tetris as a 2-D grid, make it a 3-D grid! The view would be from the corner of the cube, and you would have the ability to move the view around to see behind blocks you’ve already laid down. Some benefits to the new shape of Tetris would be the new possibilities opened up. Instead of lining up blocks just by height, and length, now you have depth. A few more adjustments to be made to the new game would be, say, little targets on top of some blocks. When power-ups fall, you have to make them land on the targets to get them. Other things might be black boxes, which turn into undeletable steel boxes if you don’t land them on a target, random boxes, which kill all the blocks of the color they land on, and pyramids, which destroy blocks that land on them, and then disappear themselves. Some ideas of power-ups might be extra time to think of where to put the next shape, a modulation to the playing field, smaller shapes, deleting one color, etc. Two player mode could feature a two board variation, where the first person to stack the boxes to the top loses, a one board variation where you take turns with the blocks, and whoever makes the losing move loses, and a team variation, where two blocks fall at the same time and you have to incorporate your actions to stay alive. Obviously, the Tetris has not been used to its full potential.
