How often is it that something original and exciting is added to the racing genre? We had Spyhunter a few years back and, hell, that's really all I can think of. But not anymore! Neosprint, I'm hoping, wil bring some spark back to car games.
Story You are Ryan Sprint. You live in a future where the Earth is almost completely flooded. The survivers have erected enormous platforms high above the oceans to build cities on. In the city where New York once stood, chaos riengs and law enforcement is weak. There is one thing, however, that seems to keept in order. A mysterious and deadly "racer" named RIOT has set up a series of deadly races, and the winner gets honrary rule over New York. If the RIOT wins, the future of New York is doomed to chaos. But you won't let that happen, now will you? Gameplay Neosprint is presented in third-person view, although most of the vehicles appear to be no bigger than a Hot-Wheels figure. In addition, the humans that appear on screen (except in cinematic sequences) will be no larger than in a SIM game! Sorry, there is no view configuration. The reason that the view is so screwy is because the camera must be zoomed far to catch all of the frantic action. (so the camera will be in helicopter style.) Although this is no simulation game (what with the machine-guns mounted on the trucks) each vehicle handles quite differently from one another. The objective of the game is to drive around the city, starting from your garage, and seek out willing racers that secretly have information about the RIOT, trying to discover his location so you may race him and (hopefully) kill him, ending his reign of chaos. If you win a race opponents will divulge the information. The twist: this is no ordinary racing game. There are hundreds of weapons that can be equipped to all of your vehicles! Vehicles As you go through the game, you may gain more cars by 1. Unlocking them by beating levels at a certain pace. or 2. Buying them When purchasing cars, you may find cheaper models of the future, along with some "classic" cars such as dragsters, hot-rods, and even modern day vehicles that we drive today. (Yeah, I'd like to see a heat-seeker on the back of my Dodge.) However, when winning or unlocking cars by completing races, you will most surely be rewarded with the high-tech armored and bizarre vehicles of the future! I came up with around 360 different kinds of vehicles, but do you really think I'm going to list them all? Here are a few examples of classic vehicles. Dragsters: Perfect for fitting on different kinds of boosters. Weapons should be heat-seeking or wide range, because it is harder to focus weapons when moving fast. School Buses: Fit these with the best quality armor, throw in a couple extremely heavy destructive weapons (the kind that only large vehicles can support.) and you have yourself one hell of a powerhouse. Of course, doing all this would slow the bus to a crawl, but buses aren't built for speedy races anyway. Ferrari: Bunch of trick slots (see the weapons section) to fit sneaky light weight weapons in! A fast moving vehicle with well balanced fire power, doesn't that sound good? Jet Ski: Now for a water vehicle. Jet Skis really fly across the water, and with the right kind of water-support boosters, you can make them soar. I would suggest that you have experience with underwater weapons before you decide what's best for your Jet Ski. Helicopter: Helicopters are hard to fly, and probably don't need any more weapons starting off. With the right kind of Barrier support (see the weapons section.) you could be flying like an expert in no time. And now a handful of futuristic examples. Model-X: The model-X is the first car in history that has no wheels. It hovers in the air, speeding about without touching the ground! Good speed, decent manueverability, yet limited trick slots make this one a choice for the beginners. Metal Dragon: The Dragon is one of the most armored vehicles in the game. It resembles a rocket-car, capable of extremely high speeds, coated entirely in metal. Although this car wins in defense hands down, it could pose a problem when trying to add heavy weapons. The Disk: The disk is...a disk. A bizarre vehicle shaped like an oval and built extremely close to the ground, wheels barely protruding from the bottom. Weapons are extremely limited, but it is a good choice to practice with manueverability. Quicksilver: This is the vehicle that the female character "Meryl Silver" drives. It is obtained by beating her. This car comes with an amazing feature: stealth. It can become invisible, easily eluding enemy fire. With good speed modifications, you'll rule the track and no one will see you do it. Neosprint: Ah, Neosprint. It's the name of the game. Neosprint is the car that Ryan Sprint drives. It's nothing too fancy, just a bright red old-fashioned race car. You may find it interesting that it is the only car in the game that is compatible with every single weapon, though... Weapons You obtain weapons by buying them. Few can be unlocked. There are around four basic catagories of weapons: Exterior, Armor, Interior, and Barrier. An exterior weapon, depending on its size and weight, may worsen the handling of your car. The same is true when purchasing armor for your car. However, this can be fixed by buying or winning special supportive tires and engine\booster systems! An Interior weapon fits into what is called a TRICK SLOT. This is the slang term for any type of headlight, grill, tailpipe, or any other opening in a vehicle. Interior weapons can be attatched conveniently to these "trick slots." Here are a few examples: On some vehicles such as corvettes, two flaps in the front pop open and reveal the headlights. If you wish to attatch a pair of machine guns to the interior of your car, find a clever trick slot like the headlights, remove them, and insert the guns! Get it, the flaps open and reveal guns instead of headlights. Here's another example of a trick slot. Most vehicles have grills in the front. If you purchase a pair of razor-blades, you may be able to modify your grill to blast out blades through the slits! When using Interior weapons, you do not have to worry about weight, but too many Interior weapons may cause your car to overheat, and may still alter handling. Barriers: Barriers protect your car for a limited time, but are not the same as armor. Barriers erect electromagnetic or "plasma energy" shields around your vehicle, making it invulnarable for a short amount of time. Using the latest in technology, barriers cannot be shot through, yet they can be shot out of! In Neosprint, days go by according to the internal clock in your Playstation 2, therefore some days are snowy, rainy, sunny, and so on. There are also night races when the sun goes down. Although you may drive around the city looking for races and such, don't expect it to be a breeze just driving to the grocery store! If you don't keep your head low, you can begin chases and fights with street thugs and even cops. To avoid fights with cops on the street, just drive the speed limit. If you're doing that, they won't arrest you, but they still might confinscate your weapons! On Foot: I hope you have noticed by now the Neosprint is a far different type of racing game. During the game, you will get special on foot missions, where you are forced to get out of your car. As I've stated before, the view will be way zoomed out, to capture most of the action. When on foot, you will carry three main items, beepers, weapons, and items. Beepers are devices used to call vehicles to your exact location, but can only be used when your character is finished his on foot section of the mission. The weapons you carry when on foot are mainly the basic war weapons, start out with a pistol, gather more powerful rifles and explosives and such. However, you may pick up more futuristic weapons such as Plasma rifles or barriers.
RACING: There are 15 different races that can be participated in around the city, and here they are: 1. Rayan's test track- A circular track owned by you! This is the only track where you decide to hold races, set standards, weapon limits and so on. 2. Pheonix's Drag- An empty street used for drag racing. Cars with turbo engines and special kinds of boosters are the only vehicles permitted! Night and Day races! 3. Tony's club- A frantic race around the city streets with an illegal street racing club! No vehicle or weapon limitations! Only Night races. 4. Vulcan Course- On oil rig has been twisted into a track...then lit on fire! Cars with explosive weapons are the only vehicles permitted! Only night races 5. Neon's Wicked Ride- Careen and swerve through gut-wrenching tunnels and loops! Cars with machine-guns and boosters are the only vehicles permitted. Only night races 6. Dusty Road- The name says it all. Have fun and drive blind using only your ramming and speed skills. Only normal cars with no weapon or engine modifications are permitted! Only daytime races. 7. Silver's Tunnel Track- Silver has built herself a track that goes under the ocean using tunnels! Anything goes except for explosives! only day races 8. Sewer Speedway- A slimeball named Ray owns this track. Only vehicles with modified wheels and engines allowed! day and night races! 9. Reign of Hell- This track is set in a junkyard...its also set for demolition! Cars with modified armor only! only daytime races! 10. Mud Course- A muddy rugged track. Only trucks with modifies wheels alowed! No weapons! Day and night races! 11. Copter Crazy- Helicopter races! No liimitations! Daytime races only! 12. Jet Crazy- Jet races! No Limitations! Day and night races! 13. Riptide course- Ocean races on Hyped up boats! No limitations! Daytime races only! 14. Deepsea course- Races on...the ocean floor? Special underwater vehicles only! No weapon limitations. Day and night races! SPECIAL TRACK 15. Liberty Course- Beat the game to unlock the course where you duked it out with the final boss, RIOT! (THE FOLLOWING LEVELS ARE SPECIAL MISSIONS IN WHICH RYAN ENCOUNTERS THE RIOT.) 16. The RIOT unleashed: Ryan and his team have finally discovered the location of the RIOT's lair! It was in New York all along, in a futuristic fortress deep underground... This fortress must be fought through completely on foot, and requires the most stealth, combat experience, and skill than any other mission in the game. Once the end of the fortress is reached, the mission is complete. 17. The RIOT: Ryan hears a vioce speaking to him from out of nowhere. "Well, Ryan. I'm impressed. I never thought anyone would have the true pleasure of meeting me in person. You are very lucky that you get to die, racing me, everyone else on this disgusting disgrace of a planet will be much less fortunate..." "Go to hell!" Ryan spits. "All right, why am I delaying, LET'S RACE!" A blinding white light consumes Ryan. He awakens to find himself standing on a narrow, stony structure. He looks over the side, and is overcome by a sickening feeling. He knows where he is. The camera zooms out, and the player sees a brilliant shot of the ocean. The torch and head of the statue of liberty are emerging from the water, and Ryan is standing right on it. (the world is flooded, remember?) His car, the Neosprint, is parked next to him. The statue lurches, and as if it were a huge bathtub, the water of the ocean begins to drain slowly. The crumbling body of the statue of liberty is revealed. Ryan realizes with sudden awe: a race track has been carved throughout the statue! A glowing green neon car zips past Ryan, and a deep mechanical vioce shreiks "LET'S RACE, MR. SPRINT!" Well, do what the RIOT says, race! This course is tough. The RIOT is not exactly a clean racer, and will use every trick in the book to knock you into the ocean. His vehicle is immune to the RIOT weapon. In fact, he is equipped with several weapons resembling the RIOT weapon! Even the race track will burst forth with electromagnetic energy! If the RIOT is defeated...it's not over yet! Ryan and the RIOT race along one of the narrow spikes of the head of the Statue of Liberty. The RIOT makes a dirty attempt to ram Ryan off, but Ryan brakes and the RIOT is sent hurling off the edge! With a cracking noise, the rest of the spike breaks off, and Ryan is also sent spiraling toward the ground! Amazingly, Ryan survives the impact. He carefully approaches RIOT's car, gun aimed. He swings open the door...and no one is in there! A surge of electricity send Ryan flying backwards. The Statue of Liberty creaks and sways, and begins to crumble away! In a blinding flash of light, Ryan sees that the statue has shed it's outer shell to reveal an enormous robotic man. RIOT has shown himself. "WHAT DO YOU WANT!?" Ryan screams. "Hmm," The RIOT says. "Knowledge." "WHAT!?" Ryan asks. "I have achieved absolute knowledge." RIOT answers simply. "I know too much, I fear. I am an A.I. Since technology was developed, I have been alive, forever gathering knowledge and information about the world. With my knowledge of technology, I can contol anything I want..." RIOT's car, even in a wrecked heap, revs its engine. "Yet I have grown too powerful. I fear I will destroy myself, crush myself under the weight of my own knowledge." RIOT says darkly. "I have nothing left to learn. And so, Earth has no more purpose. It's time to end it all..." Time to have an on-foot battle with the enormous RIOT! I hope you stocked up on on-foot weapons before this mission, because if you didn't you're history! Defeat the RIOT...AND YOU WIN THE GAME! THE AFTERMATH Ryan has defeated the terror that threatened to bring about the next apocolypse. He has returned to the devastated city of New York, and was elected the new president. And he has good news: survivors of Jax's nuclear strike have been discovered, even signs of animal life from the Rain Forest! Now, the first step towards a bright new future is rebuilding... The RIOT is defeated, but the game does not end here! Once the RIOT is defeated, you are set back at Ryan's test track, but don't forget, Ryan is now President! Racing: Instead of control over only your track and vehicles, you have control over all 16 tracks in the city! Hold tournaments, set race times, limitations and more, just like your own test track! You may now also be in contact with the presidents of other colonies, and you may set races with them anytime! Law Enforcement: Since Ryan is now President, he must protect New York as much as ever now! Remember in the beginning when I said that through the game you must watch out for officers, drive the speed limit, and that kind of stuff? Well now that Ryan is in control, you may control law-enforcement vehicles and seek out law breakers across the city! Also, the on-foot option has a new feature: you may control officers and have them patrol the city, making sure the bad guys end up behind bars! A fun way to use officers is to let them be security guards at races.
So you see, the game has no real ending, the fun just goes on! Author: Sparda590 (todddraper@verizon.net) Rating: T for Teen. (Animated sci-fi violence, animated sci-fi disaster scenes.) Genre: Racing\action

I see you've put a lot of thought into this one, I also see that you've downgraded your capabilities. What I mean by this is your plot relates nothing to your gameplay. Racing RIOT is not going to bring his fater back, racing him isn't even revenge! I think you should either drop the plot and say that this game is based on furturistic illegal street racing, or spice it up a bit. All in all, you've done a very nice job.

I left a lot of story information out of this one, and I geuss that was a mistake. I should have maybe have changed the storyline a little. By the way, my capabilities were not downgraded: I wrote this one before the surreal.

i like this idea solely because it reminds me of post apocolyptic movies like mad max and escape from la. the story line is ok but maybe you could include a second villian besides your character's father's killer like the tyranical riot dictator who runs the games to keep his ppl entertained and keep them in line. knowing you though sparda your already thinking about what i just said. keep up the good work.

I tried to add to the plot so it would make more sense, but it got WAAAAY too long. I took your advice, bizpimp, and made the game revolve more around an illegal tournament. Oh well, makes more sense anyway.

I had my doubts on this one, but you seemed to have amazed me once again. Your talent is increasing my friend. I think it's better now that you've based it mainly on the 'racing' persective. I'm looking forward to reading more of your work, as well as the upcoming Surreal series!

It's very hard to do original racing games, but this is a decent shot. The only thing that really sprung out at me was that you said the days went by according to the PS2's internal clock, but some races can only happen at certain times. This means the player will have to play the console at certain times if they want to race at certain areas- not a good idea. You also haven't gone into the espoinage missions much, other than you test your weapons there. (I though espionage was supposed to be stealthy!). I do like the weapons/armour/handling trade off. What kind of cars can you use? 'Proper' racing cars only, or more exotic stuff? Dragster? Articulated lorry? Mini? School minibus? unicycle? Still, a decent idea that needs some work before it can be called truly great.

I didn't want to go into the espionage missions too much because it made the document too long, and I have trouble submitting long game ideas. As for the internal clock on the PS2, YOU CAN SET THE TIME ON THE CLOCK! I mean really, I wouldn't make you wait days or months to get to a certain race. Just go to the browser and pick out the correct time. Of course, that would screw up the actual date, so maybe I did mess up. As for the vehicle types, I think they should be mostly made up. Too many real cars might blur the originality a bit. But sure, dragsters and stuff would be cool. I just don't want anyone to get a false interpretation of this game. Don't forget, this is set in THE FUTURE, where they might have vehicles that we could only dream of!

If you haven't already noticed, I have been updating my shorter game ideas. I will soon be updating this one, adding to the espionage missions (which will now be called "action missions". Thanks for pointing that out, Newman.) as well as the plot. (Cross your fingers, bizpimp.) Be sure to read Fraction and Devil May Cry 3! As I said, I've making changes to some of my minor ideas.

I was thinking, since the in-game cutscenes consist of so much stealthy and gun related action, why not include these types of methods within the actual gameplay? maybe in an Action/Racing type category? I'm not so sure about what you've updated, but I like the way you've included a semi walkthrough style-explaining what exactly is going on. I must say, the isn't my favorite of your ideas, but nonetheless it does have a great deal of creativity. Try focusing on what your game idea has that others don't and emphasizing that more than anything...

This is probably my most annoying game idea next to The Surreal 2. I just can't seem to get this one how I want it, but I'll be sure to update it again soon. I actually liked this better before it was updated; it should revolve more around racing then the James Bond future crap. I'll still keep the on-foot sequences and the RIOT battle, but I'm going to drop the Action Missions. I guess I'll just have to test around until I can find what best fits this game...

Well, there I go again. I changed the "plot" once more, having the game focus more on racing. Racing cars with big honkin weapons attached to them. It just feels...hmm...right...to have this one be more of an original RACING game, rather than branching off into some whacked out semi-shooter.

ok, sparda, I'm guessing this will be the last of my comments until you permenantly update this particular idea of yours. I see you've altered gameplay methods, as well as the plot, once again. Be that as it may, this is now sounding like a cross of GTA and Twisted Metal. Your concept is no doubt creative, but still in need of some minor touch-ups here and there.

Another futuristic racer that screams F-Zero Underground at me for some reason (the first being otto's Super Sonic Speed). Props on trying to work a plot in, though I can tell by my predecessors that it didn't work out too well for you. It's a good racing game all around though. Just needs a little spice. Keep up the good work.

Just in case you missed it, I'll try to get the feel of this game down. It may indeed be a bit like F-zero, going extremely fast while set in the future, but don't forget that the game has tons of customaizable weapons and the view is set far out to see a lot of the background and opponents. I don't like it too much when my game ideas are compared to similar SOUNDING games unless I intended them to be that way because I try to come up with original feel of gameplay for all of my ideas. And bizpimp, I can see how you find similarities to this and Twisted Metal, but why GTA? And another thing: you stated first that this idea was "acceptably well done" (before the stupid plot) and then "hardly original" when all I did was drop the plot and add a tournament mode.

Yes, as I said before, this does resemble that of Twisted Metal. However, when I mentioned a comparison to that of GTA, I was reffering to GTA 1 and 2, on account of the overhead view (helicopter style) and the attachable vehicular weapons. Perhaps I made a mistake with that particular comparison, but then again, it was only a comment. Also, my perspective of this game CERTAINLY altered once the plot was dropped- reason being: without a plot I feel that your game idea is easily in comparison to the likes of a gereral topic rather than an original one. Yes, I'm here to critisize, but I'm here to help as well :)
