The game would start where the book starts, the main character, Meadow, coming prematurely into powers she didn't know she had when she is found by a Brujo who has been posing as the Captain General of the Kings guard for the past twenty years. I'll skip to the very begining, the prologue. 300 years earlier, a huge war was faught, the golden war, golden war because the Lamia, the good guys, beat the Brujo, the bad guys who were using their magic to try and dominate the world. All Lamia are women and all Brujo are men. During this time, there was a Lamia, Lamia Victoria, who fell in love with a young man, the son of another Lamia (Lamia only married children of other Lamia to keep their blood strong) but this young man was in love with another girl. So when this young man married this other girl, Victoria Lamia grew bitterly angry and cursed them. Her curse was that their line would not bear a girl child for ten generations. With no female children they were banished from Lucana (the island of the Lamia) and sent to live among the commoners. The golden war left only a few Lamia and a handful of Brujo left alive. THe story and game begins at the end of Victoria Lamia's curse, when a girlchild is born to the family that was banished and both the Brujo and the few Lamia who are left are searching for her. The game will open with the short prologue, then show Meadow, a small blonde young woman running home from the market with her basket full. When she turns down her street, she sees soldiers searching through the houses, and one spots her, Andro, the huge Captain General of the Kings Guard and approaches her. Without a word, he tkes her and puts her in a wagon filled with other girls and they are all taken to the castle, where they are then told that they are to be a tribute gift to a foreign land. Andro asks the king if he may have Meadow, and for some reason, Meadow is filled with such an intense fear that something opens up iside of her and reaches out for help. Her Magic is awoken five years early and in the market place, her father falls to his knees and cries out in fear. Further in th castle, in the practice yards, a young man drops his sword and wonders what pulls him towards the throne room that way. He goes, and finds his father, the king inspecting young girls who are to be sent with his cousin Carmine as wedding gifts. One in particular caught his attention, a small girl with long blonde hair, he felt...... something strange about her. She was frightened. Andro stood near her, hovering and her felt Andro was the source of her fear. He stepped foreward and spoke quietly to his father, telling him he would take care of that girl, then took hold of her and quickly dissappeared before anyone could argue. He no sooner gets to the main gardens when a servant approaches with a merchant. The merchant tells him he is Meadows father, then begins to unfold the tale of who Meadow is and who Andro must be, and how Meadow has used her magic to link to the prince for protection, and how she must be taken to Lucana, not only to be taught her magic, but to escape the clutches of the Brujo who would use her in nefarious ways. This is where gameplay begins. It can be a two player, or one player game, using a button to switch back and forth between characters. The Prince starts with only his sword and Meadow with only her belt knife. They must make their way to Lucana across Mareshomese and Meadow must navigate their way to Lucana because only Lamia can find the floating island of Lucana. They must escape animals Andro has magicked into helping him, men he has hired into capturing them, thieves who would rob them and so on. they also get a little help along the way. Meadow learns a small harm spell from a kobald on a dragonmite they meet in the forrest , and a regeneration spell from a sprite on the grasslands. They get Protection amulets from an Ogre that they help beneath a waterfall. The Prince can get a double bladed battle axe if he helps the right old man out, and all of this is on Mareshomese. Almost right away, the kobald will give them a map to Port Mattalay where they will discover how the stars will be alligned in five years and where her birth sign should be then. In Port Mattalay They will confront Andro and have to defeat him to go on, and there discover that the Brujo are re-ammassing to try and re-take the world again. They will sail Northeast, towards her projected birthsign and reach Lucana, and upon reaching it, Meadow will automatically gain her full powers and the prince will gain a special ward of protection. Both will be harder to kill. From Lucana, they will sail to the Barathrum, to the Isle of the Damned where the Brujo are massing. Together they will slay the every last one, working their way through the maze and labyrinth that is the Peret De Non (Castle of the Dead) until they reach the throne room and Meadow is confronted with her family's oldest nemesis Lamia Victoria.
As I said, a one or two player game, but if it's one player, the one not being played (Most likey Meadow until you reach Lucana) follows along and has a sort of free will. Once Meadow reaches Lucana She will have three main spells besides the two small one she receives in Mareshomese, all three damage spells. Spontaneous combustion, where her enemy explodes. The Bone Dance, where she rips the bones out of every enemy within a small radious and makes them dance. The Earth Shark, where the ground beneath the enemies feet opens up and chomps on the lower half of their bodies. Major spells don't work in the throne room, but thats to your favor since her spells will kill you as quickly as yours will her. You'll have to kill her and the seven powerful Brujo protecting her as well with your small spell and weapons, unless you can find another way. (hint hint) You can gather coin and buy things as you go, (food, bow and arrows etc). Only the prince can use the bow and arrows and he wont be great, but good for a long range attack before you switch to a close range weapon. You also gain experience as you go, and the more experience the better your spells work, even the small ones, so it's best to get all you can before confronting Victoria. And try and find Haggus on Lucana, she will enchant all armor and weapons for a small price. One thing to remember about the link the two share, they only have one lifeline. If he dies, she dies, and vise versa. He feels all she feels and vise versa.
So there you go. Thoughts? Comments? Ideas? I'm open to all suggestions! :) -Gabrielle
