John Stahl is a man who leads two lives. The first, he is a family man with a wife that loves him and a baby on the way. The second, he is one of the best shadow warriors around, he has no family or no name. He is fearless and risks his life everyday. He's kept these lives apart for 15 years, until along came Max Stellar. A criminal you sent down years ago. Following a bank job Max made his way back to his house, the Shadow Warriors were deployed. During a shootout at the house Max's family got caught in the crossfire and died, Max, however, escaped with his life and the money. Five years later he's back for revenge, he's targeted you the man who led in the squad who unintentionally slaughtered his family. He wants to tear your life apart like you did to him, and that means kidnapping your heavily pregnant wife. The two lives you kept apart for 15 years have come crashing together with disastrous consequences, and it's up to you to save the lives that Max has resting in his hands. The gameplay, in third person mode, ranges from strategic planning and movement of your troops in the earlier missions before Max strikes, to roaming around the city interrogating well known criminals for information on Max's whereabouts. Early on you get to control the Shadow Warriors through missions including the one at Max's house, until Max takes his revenge about a quarter of the way through the story. Once you find him you have a choice on whether to play by the rules and go in as John Stahl: Shadow Warrior, or to be more personal and go in as John Stahl: husband and father. If you choose the more personal approach you will have to keep the other SAS officers off your back and keep your family safe. But if you choose the professional way who knows what might happen in the shootout, remember what happened at Max's house five years ago. It's your choice. There is a massive selection of weapons available, from pistols to automatics to baseball bats, it varies from where in the city you are and what you're doing. You also get to drive yours and any commandeered vehicles around the city to your destination. You can interact with your surroundings, using items as cover or weapons (e.g. throwing garbage cans). In some situations, depending on which path you take you can also use John's fantastic martial arts skills to bring down those criminals. There are multiple missions and endings depending on which objectives you do correctly, so will you play by the rules to bring down a ruthless criminal and save your family?
