Kitsune

Story: 2137A.D

A cold, bloody war has engulfed the Eurasian landmass. For 70 years, this nation and that, this faction and the other, have battled for supremacy of this continent, and the conflict threatens to spill over into Australia and Africa.

The Western Hemisphere has managed to stay uninvolved and noncommittal, and no military therein has been mobilized to join the battle. Deep in the bowels of corporate America, a new weapon has been developed, one that will turn the tides of this brutal war.

Masaki Enterprises, Ltd, in a bid to make an untold fortune from the war,  has developed a line of genetically altered super soldiers, each a sort of subspecies of human. On the eve of their battlefield debut, one of these soldiers is struck by a rogue electrical charge. Its brain reverts to it human thought patterns and escapes. You are this soldier, a woman whose genes have been spliced with those of a fox. You are Kitsune, a master of short-sword combat, martial arts and gunplay. You are alone in an endless metropolis. Use your powers of stealth, speed and agility to expose Masaki for their crimes, and save billions of lives from eternal war.

Kitsune is played in a third-person perspective, and controlled in a style very similar to Oni for the PS2. Kitsune, the main character, has a special Fox Sense, that can tell her where enemies, threats and cameras are before she sees them. However, if she is discovered, this sense goes haywire, and refuses to work. After losing your pursuers and allowing your nerves to calm, the sense fires back up.

In addition to your inverted short sword, you can carry one gun. The weapons are:

Desert Eagle Mk. VI- Good stopping power and a decent rate of fire make this an excellent handgun. Capacity: 12 rounds Fire rate: 5 Rounds/ 1 sec

Blackadder Submachine Gun- The weapon of choice for terrorists and criminals. Capacity: 30 Rounds Fire rate: 12 rounds/ 1 sec

Plasma Rifle- An energy weapon commonly used by SWAT Teams and military police. Capacity: 10 Shots Fire rate: 1 shot/sec

TTA Assault Rifle-This rifle can mow down a row of enemies before having to reload. Capacity: 85 rounds Fire Rate: 12 rounds/ sec

Blitz Cannon- Lightning in a bottle. This energy weapon must be charged to be truly effective. Capacity: Varies Fire Rate: Varies

The Shocker- Aptly named, this weapon fires a raw electrical shock that is unaffected by shields and armor. Capacity: 500 Rounds Fire Rate: Continuous

Your Enemies are:

Terrorist- Untrained, unclean, unshaven, Terrorists tend to use force of numbers to achieve their goals.

Thug- These punk kids are simply out looking for an easy buck and a good fight.

Security Guard- Young to middle aged men who roam high-security areas looking for trouble.

Police Officer- Citizen-soldiery of the city used to fight crime

SWAT Trooper- Deployed against the most dangerous of criminals, they are rarely seen alone.

Gear F (Siren class)-Female Androids used for intelligence operations and assassination.

Gear M (Viking class)- Male Androids used for special military operations and brute force tactics.

Gear 1 (Sherman class) The Sherman Gear is a mechanical exoskeleton used as armor and weapon. It is fitted with machine guns and rocket launchers.

Gear 2 (Abrams class) - Stronger and faster than Shermans, Abrams are the middle class of Gear.

Gear 3 (Panzer class) - The ultimate in Gear technology, Panzers can only be defeated by another Panzer.

Masaki has developed seven different varieties of their soldiers. They are:

Kitsune- A fox human Hybrid, Kitsune is a master of ninja combat, and is extremely stealthy and quick. Kitsune is best put to use in a desert or mountain environment.

Lockjaw- A cross between a human and a Crocodile, Lockjaw uses his twin tomahawks with aplomb, and is best applied in a swamp or sewer environment.

Papa Bear- This human/Bear mix is the most powerful of soldier. When he starts to whirl his chain, heads will roll and bodies will hit the floor. Papa Bear has proven most at home in a Tundra Environment.

White Shark- An impressive mix of human and shark, White Shark’s simple appearance belies his amazing intelligence. Naturally, White Shark is at home in the ocean.

Raptor Red- An extensive application of both genetics, neuro-robotics and metallurgy, Raptor Red kills quickly and efficiently. Armed with telescopic claws on her hands, Raptor Red is most effective in the Jungles.

Kathy- A project still under development, Kathy has been mixed with a tiger to create a wonderful little soldier. Though her programming is not complete, It is believed that her skills and endearing striped fur will appeal to most buyers.

Heavy Metal Butterfly- Merely programmed and not spliced the Heavy Metal Butterfly is still a dangerous enemy. It has been fitted with two gigantic butterfly wings and can easily outmaneuver even the most advanced fighter jet.

As of right now there are 12 levels planned

1. “Training Day”- Still under Masaki mind control, you are being put to test in terrorist controlled warehouse. You have to defuse the bombs in the area, minimize non-terrorist casualties and restore power to the building.

2. “Rebirth”- Your mind is your own again. You must escape the holding pen, neutralize the security team sent to stop you, and then escape to the sewers.

3. “Down and Dirty” Somewhere in this sewer is a way out and into the city. In an effort to stop you, Masaki has deployed one of their soldiers, Lockjaw, to recapture you.

4. “Fly Away” Fly the hang-glider to the downtown area of the city. There, you should be able to find something to replace your Masaki uniform.

5. “Mean Streets” You are suddenly on the most wanted list. Find a way to the local mall without being detected by the police. A second soldier, Papa Bear, is hiding in the alleys.

6. “Customer Service” Police and SWAT Teams are moving in on the mall. You will have to fight your way out. Be careful not to harm innocent bystanders.

7. “Fight or Flight” You have stolen a police cruiser, and are on the run from the law. A popular hideout is the local docks. You should be able to hide there.

8. “Man and Machine” Masaki’s war robots are a large part of their business. They are storing three prototype models of that product in this warehouse. Destroy them all. The White Shark is around here somewhere.

9. “Walk in the Park” You have to find a way back to the labs. The quickest way there is through the city park. The place is crawling with cops, and Raptor Red is prowling the grounds.

10. “Now or Never”-Two Masaki engineers have contacted you, and wish to help you expose their bosses. When you meet them, they tell you that a team is busy programming the last victim of the soldier program. You must save this victim, a little girl named Kathy.

11. “Airborne” The engineers have managed to charter a flight out of the city. You must protect them and Kathy from the Masaki androids who have been dispatched to kill you and your new friends. Kill the androids and try to disarm the SAM missile launchers or they will swat you out of the air like a silly fly.

12. “Papillion” Masaki’s final victim, the Heavy Metal Butterfly is attacking your plane. Use the Panzer class gear in the cargo hold to destroy it.

In addition to your sword, you can carry one gun. A multi-use button controls the use of your bare hands, sword, and gun, (hereinafter, the Punch button). It will be possible to shoot one way, while running another, or shoot an enemy in the stomach during a grab. While using the sword, you will carve your opponent's to ribbons with an assortment of slashes and stabs. Depending on the angle of attack (front, back, beside, above), you will pull off a different attack. Using grabs, you can pull off other attacks. For instance, grab an enemy from behind and press punch with no weapon, and you will put them in a sleeper hold. Keep pressing Punch while doing this to break the enemy's neck. With your sword drawn, you will slash their throat, and repeated presses of the Punch button will deliver several stabs to the chest. Grabbing an opponent when using a gun is a different bag of cats. Instead of instantly killing your enemy, you can take them as a human shield. This can also be used against civilians to keep the cops from shooting you. Pressing Punch the first time will put your weapon to the enemy's head, and make Kitsune shout a warning to whomever she is shielding her self from. Press Punch again and you lose your shield.

Combo attacks are also possible when using your sword and bare hands. Try pressing different directions when attacking to find special moves, and try to tie these moves into combos. With practice you will be able to take on any enemy in the game and beat them with out breaking a sweat.

This is still a work in progress. As I put a coat of polish on it, it will be upgraded. If you have any ideas, comments or concerns, don’t hesitate to tell me.

By far, this is one of your most interesting ideas. I myself love games that involve corruption within military intellect (thus fighting against your own "team"). Both your plot and gameplay perspectives are rather interesting, as I would very much like to help in any way I can. I don't recall any game ever involving splicing human/animal gentetics- very original. One question: Did Masaki Enterprises originally build these genecticly altered super soldiers for the purpose of dominace or destruction of other nations/factions? You've done a great job on describing the multiple details of each character and situation. So far so good. Stick with your current style of creativity and innovation and something unexpectedly good is bound to to brighten your future. Great work.

I did forget to mention why these soldiers were created. I hope my little ten word alteration there in the story clears that up. If not, then it was for pure love of money. They were going to be cloned and sold like you would do to a simple action figure.

the title alone was enough to catch my eye diver(kitsune are the legendary were foxes of the east i believe)i admit this wasn't what i expected(i was thinking maybe it was an onimusha style game in feudal japan with a kitsune as the main hero or heroine)instead i get a riveting tale of supergenetics,a corrupt military, and an unlikely protagonist. this would be an excellent game(how many military action thrillers have soldiers in them that have been inhanced by animal dna)you did a great job diver.

2 points spring to mind: 1) there is not that great of a variety in the enemy rank and file. The bosses are different and interesting, but there only seem to be a handful of enemies who you will face under regular circumstances. Perhaps face soldiers engineered to a lesser extent throughout the levels- the number of different types you could face would greatly boost the variety. The second thought was other than the fox sense, you haven't delved into the powers of your character much, or the powers of the other engineered soldiers- you have mentioned their strengths and perhaps one ability, but I feel that they all deserve more in order to differentiate them from each other. The characters powers are what primarily differentiates your game from others (although there are neat other ideas, they are too small to make the game original on their own), so the more care and attention goes into them, the more unique your game can be. Another game which could be something really good with just a bit more work.
