Im sure even if you loved dancing games after a while it got kinda boring just dancing your ass off, so heres the twist how about the game being an rpg where you can walk around cities and stage street dancing showdowns.

i would hope that this game would play out a bit like pokemon did for the gameboy, but on any platform.I say this because i want it to be like that because there are certain objectives you have to fulfill before you can move on,but you are still free to roam around at your own free will.

Although you're free to do practically whatwhere, the basic goal would be to get famous and for that purpose there will be a league table for the top 100 .There will be almost unlimited numbers of characters but these will be sorted into types(thanks to sparda590 for the idea)(ps if you can come up with better ideas for names post a comment!)

Rookies~beginers like you start out like. Not hard to beat.
Clubbers~just out for a good time.Noy very skilled but have loads of style.
Streeters~about average dancers.Takes a bit of skill and style to beat.
Da Dance Pack~a specific group of dancers, quite skilled.Harder to beat than streeters.More style required here.
Pop starz~Does what it says on the label.Very famous, but this game concentrates on the moves so that shouldnt be a problem.
Backers~Not as famous as the pop starz but definately more skilled, and thats what its about. The highest level 'random' characters.

Plus there should be about 20 Real Famous dancers, with proper names(any suggestions)as you can see im crap with names so ill leave that.

The game starts when you pick a starting character, from a list of about 10. You can give them a name and you can then customise their looks in the way of gender, skin, hair and eye colour, but at the begginning all the characters have shaby clothes and dont know many moves but this will slowly improve as you play more.
You start in a town and the controlls are for the dancemat but you can also use a normal controller:
D-pad/arrows-to move the character
X(cross)button-To talk to people,pick up items,confirm
/\(triangle)button-To escape menus
O(circle)button-Opens the game menu

You walk around looking for people already dancing since at the start you cant start your own street shows. When you find a 'dancemat'(where you can show off your skills) you can choose to dance. If you choose yes then the game goes into dance mode where your stats pop up ,these show the following
Energy-this slowly goes down, you can buy some items like foods to keep this up or sleep at places~first its bus stops but as you get money you can stay at hotels which also provide food. This is so that you are limited to how many dances you can go in.
Money-you get this after a successful dance.
Style-this is determined by the clothes you wear. This can also determine how much money you get.
Experience points-these show how much dancing experience you have, this is added to after a dance or when you unlock the option and get enough money you can go to a dancing school. The more points you have the more moves you can do.

Also special dance mode stats pop up which tell you how many people are watching you(the more the better),how many mistakes you've made(when you make a couple of mistakes a few people leave),how impressed people watching are(more impressed more money)combo count(shows how many consecutive steps you have made)and how much of the song is left.If you are dancing on someone elses mat then you cant choose the music.

In dance mode you have to step on the arrows when they reach the top like a normal game and you keep playing until the song is over or ,if you keep making mistakes, when no-one is watching you.

When dance mode is over you get awarded exp points based on  your highest combo, money based on how many people were watching and how impressed they were, and sometimes if you did really good another dancer would become friends with you.Friends are important as they raise your profile and make you more famous which as i mentioned earlier is the object of the game.Your health goes down a bit after every dance.

Being famous is important because the more well known you are more options are open to you like going into different towns and special buildings like clubs which sometimes have special options like dancing schools or where you can make more friends, or even a special training hall where if you have a second controller you can play with a friend to help build your exp points.

Throughout the game there will be different shops some where you can buy clothes and jewellry to improve your style points, some where you can buy food to keep your hunger down, and some shops where you can buy your own dancemat and CDs to stage your own dances.

To stage your own dances you need a dancemat, CD player and you can buy your own CDs which you can choose which you ones buy.As you progress you can get better music, and lights and stuff.(thanks sparda)

So i think thats about everything tell me what you think about RPGs going in a musical direction.

Hey Vee, you have a pretty interesting concept here, as I never thought RPG would ever mix with that of the dance genre. However, there are some minor flaws in this particular idea of yours. Although a mix of RPG and Dance is rather creative, it is not a good idea to include a "health status" or "hunger levels". Hunger is not a relative concept for this type of game, so please, drop it. As far as exp. points go, by all means, keep them. Exp. should only be earned when the player has successfully beaten an opponent, while money should be earned if the player did a relatively good job or busted out some pretty sweet moves. More on money: money should be used only to help the player attend dance lessons or pay a fellow dancer to teach them new moves (thus gaining exp. points as well). All in all, Vee, this isn't as organized as I hoped it would've been, but it does consist of originality. Keep it up.

First off thanks for reading .I know that this game isnt fully polished but im not changing anything unless i have an idea of what you can replace it with.About hunger/health i wanted to use this as some sort of way of limiting the amount of times you can play, although i am aware that this probably isnt the best way to do it.I am a great admirer of your ideas so thanks for feedback.Oh and thanks for adressing me as Vee deVil.shadow was one of those web names that seemed like a good idea at the time.

Dancing games? I've seriously never heard of one. The concept does sound amusing, though I think it would get boring fast. Not to fear, I'm interested in making this one better. You have described everything quite nicely, though I would like it if you would tell me what kind of environments the player is dancing in a little more. Maybe you could start on the streets, then work up moves and points until you can get into clubs and whatnot. You need more ways to spend points. You could use them to get into higher level dance clubs, and even new equiptment. For Example: You start out with a small boombox, capable of dishing out only mediocre beats. But, as you progress, you buy your way into a whole new level of funkiness, with surround stereo systems and DJs and strobe lights and such. The characters could be listed a little deeper.(just the main\playable characters. I know you said there was an almost unlimited variety of opponents. However, those characters could be listed through broad categories\classes.) I would like being able to choose from male or female dancers, as there are male and female dancing styles. Maybe you could even make a whole team of dancers, making it challenging to get each one to dance to exactly the right beat. This also may be a good idea because you did list that groovy clothes score points, and dressing your team in signature outfits that match the dancing style would rock. See ya, and keep up with these weird gaming styles, they really make me want to look into them.

Okay im thinking of updating this idea(im just a bit busy setting up my own site at the moment).I like what sparda said about teams and ranks-i did mean to put stuff in about that originally but like i said sumwhere before i cant write to save my life.Never played a dancing game?Well its basically where you have a mat with arrows on and on the screen there are a bunch of arrows, when the arrows reach a certain point you gotta step on the corresponding arrow on the mat in time to the music.;>theVee

Hey, wait a second! I HAVE played a dancing game before at an arcade! I SUCK! Well, nobody cares. Anyway, I just thought up a cool new feature: dancing games revolve a lot around the player stepping on arrows, but what if you want to switch your style, like to "breakdancing", perhaps. Then there could be arrows for your HANDS! HAHAHAHA! That would be pretty freakin hard though...

I did think about adding that style to this game but hey dont assume just cos i wrote a dancing idea means that im actually any good at it!I have enough trouble with normal steps without tricky hand moves and i think this game has enough without adding a new style, good idea though.Any suggestions for good names for the dancers, anyone?Vee

Aw, that would have been cool. Oh well, it was more of a suggestion for expert players\dancers, I wasn't just referring to you.

I thought this idea was pretty clever. Mixing dance with RPG was a good idea. I like how everything was described and i can somewhat see the game in my head and how it would play out. I think its a great idea. Good work
