It is the year 2800A.D
Man has mastered space travel, discovering traces of several other examples of intelligent life forms, but encountering none face to face.
A spark is about to be struck that will light the flame for an eternal war between man and space creature
You are David Valek, a troop belonging to the Earth’s elite space squadron-
You are that spark…
Beginning
The space station Satyr has been broken off from the communication system, no word has been heard from the technicians based there for several months. Deciding to investigate, the World Government (WG for future reference) sends out a small squadron of 15 elite troops to check the space station is still secure. David Valek is one of those troops. You are David Valek.
The next cut scene shows 15 well-equipped, heavily armed soldiers boarding a modern gun ship. The ship then rises up and speeds off into the distance. The camera can then show Valek sitting on the ship, but that is not really going to affect the game, so it doesn’t matter.
The next screen shows the ship landing on a bay in a seemingly deserted space station, the size of a large city. The camera shows the 15 soldiers leave the gun ship and look about them. Everything is forlorn and destroyed. Huge skyscrapers are crumbling slowly, other space ships lie in the "harbour", all of which have huge gaping claw shaped holes in their sides.
The captain of your squadron decides to go back on board and radio WG, telling them what he sees. As he walks up the boarding ramp, a huge creature pounces from above him and strikes him to the ground, ripping him apart with huge scythe like claws. The creature scurrying inside the ship closely pursued by 3 squad members. Before it is shot dead, it has managed to tear apart the communications system. This mutant was clearly on a specific mission, the squad decide.
Without your captain, who played a key part in piloting the ship, or the communication system, you are stuck on the planet. This is where the game play begins. The camera takes a 1st person view behind Valek, one of the heavy weapons operators in the group.
The 2nd in command decides you should split up into 2 groups, each of 7 people. Group 1 will guard the ship, group 2 will search for further signs of life, hostile or not. You, Valek, are in group 2, and so go off away from the ship.
For this part of the mission, you shall need to stay close to your team and follow the leaders orders. As of yet, you have no map of the area and so the radar is not up yet. Stray away from your team and the chances are that you’ll find yourself surrounded by mutants.
The first sections of game play will mainly be exploration and discovery of items, although a few enemies may come and pick a fight, their attacks will not be co-ordinated yet.
After roughly covering the entire ground, you report back to the ship. Once you arrive, you find everyone is dead, ripped apart by creatures clearly similar to the first one seen on camera. It is at this stage you encounter the first of the huge bosses. As your team is studying your dead colleagues, a group of creatures surround you. There are about 10, and between you, slaying them all should be quick and easy, until you encounter the boss, inferno (see enemies sections for description).
After this, your entire squad, now just seven men, set off once more, this time planning to find a hospital which may offer some kind of treatment to the dead.
At the hospital, there is once more contact, this time with different enemies. Your squad gets separated at this point, and you are left to explore alone. To make matters worse, you have a wound on your shoulder, which has gone straight through your armour plating. This bite has caused an infection and means that throughout the game, you shall slowly turn into a replica of the creature that wounded you, satyr. This puts a time limit on the game, after 50 hours (so you shan’t be totally rushed and can still explore, it is a big game) you will have completely turned, and so it is game over. However up until that point, as time progress’, you shall gain some of Satyr’s amazing capabilities. You shall receive on of a total of 7 for every area you successfully clear of hostile life.
Now the game takes a turn and becomes more non-linear. As I have just said, the colony is divided into 7 sections, each colour coded and named white, yellow, green, blue, grey, red and finally, black.
All these areas are open straight away for you to explore, except black, which is only opened when all other areas are cleared and the key cards collected (yes I know that’s an old idea…). Once you enter an area, you cannot leave, however you can save just before you do enter.
Each area presents different enemies, challenges, scenery, puzzles and skills. I listed the areas in the difficulty they are; however as each area is so varied, different players may find some easier than others. Once you have all 6 key cards, you access the harder area, black. At the end of this you meet the final boss Satyr, who by now, you are an almost replica of. After defeating him, you are weak and injured. You are also heavily wounded by the infection. A cut scene starts, showing the ending:
Your character has given up hope; he is bleeding and feels dizzy from the infection, which is glowing brightly. Valek falls to the ground, and does not get up. He lies, apparently dead, side by side with Satyr, bearing a strong resemblance to the cruel creature.
Several hours later, a female member of the squadron stumbles into the room, hurt but still conscious and able to walk. She sees your body and recognises you by the dog tag. After hours spent with the communication system in the space station, the girl manages to make contact with earth and arrange a rescue team. Your body is taken away and given a heroes burial ceremony by the WG. A happy/sad ending.
The game:
Here I have broken the game down into what each level includes, types of weapons and enemies .
Area description:
Area White: A relatively simple level, which aims to introduce the basics of the game, includes mostly corridors, catering and supply rooms. Many simple, less powerful enemies are introduced here, as well as some basic items. This level includes running, jumping, shooting and exploring
Area Yellow: This area contains the housing for the people who used to work at the space station, and is now a desolate place full of destroyed buildings. Many creatures inhabit this area, so it is mainly the concept of 10 v. 1 battles that this level focuses on
Area Green: A large area that is mainly out in open, like a giant set of fields, and allows you to drive vehicles. When driving an army buggy, the camera switches to 3rd person, and you have to shoot from the two light machine guns on the front of the car. There is also a large gun tower here, which must be used to destroy the 4 fighter battleships that come after you in the level.
Area Blue: The marine section of the station, full of water creatures and huge pools, as well as aquariums and control rooms. Many of the water mutants are found here, for obvious reasons.
Area Grey: The docking station, full of ships, many of them belonging to the aliens, who still stand guard. Fighting everyone here is a real stupid way to get yourself killed, so a mixture of stealth and action is required.
Area Red: The main control room, full of huge machines and many beasts.
Area Black: The science labs are here. Huge rooms full of complex equipment, all of which has been exposed in the air following the initial invasion of the station. Powerful beasts hide in the shadows of this, the largest area in the game. It is at the end of this area that you meet the final boss, Satyr.
Now, I said that after you clear each area, you receive a new ability, due to the infection you have after Satyr wounded you, so here is what each special power does. These are a reward for passing each little level within the game. Each is particularly useful in the following level, but can be used to great effect throughout.
White: Heal: Makes your wounds slowly re-heal (energy recovers) over time.
Yellow: Surround: A special move in which Valek will kick out left and right whilst firing both forwards and backwards, damaging all around him, perfect for times when he is outnumbered. Done by entering a quick combination of buttons.
Green: Hover: Allows you to hover for a period of 10-15 seconds, above all enemies so you can shoot down at them. Done by entering a combination of buttons.
Blue: A more powerful version of Heal.
Grey: Teleport: Places you on the opposite side of the room in which you are. Using this will noticeably damage your energy meter, to stop overuse.
Red: Paralyse: Freezes all enemies on the screen for 5 seconds, allowing you to either flee, recover or fill them full of lead! Using this will slightly damage your energy meter, to stop overuse.
Black: Bullets of fire: Makes your guns fire bullets made entirely of flame, which are needed to beat Satyr
Weapons:
Not entirely done yet, so I’m open to suggestion, but so far:
Pistol: Weak weapon fires 7 rounds before reloading, minimal damage. Valek can carry 2 of these at once.
Shotgun: Fires 2 bullets at a time, strong, have to reload a lot.
Machine gun: David’s standard weapon, fires 96 rounds, before reloading, quick firing and light.
Plasma gun: Powerful gun, does exactly what it says.
Laser gun: Fires a burning hot laser beam at an enemy, causing him to burn and maybe even melt!
Water cannon: Sounds stupid, but fires a concentrated, high pressure jet of water, can be reloaded anywhere with water and is very good against the enemies who love fire.
Sharuken: A throwing weapon, a small disk with 3 sharp metal blades on the edges, which cut into an enemies skin, no matter how thick.
Knife/sword: Knives can be thrown, the sword can’t.
Enemies:
As with weapons, still not really complete:
Inferno: The first boss, a giant insect like creature, around 5-6 metres tall, with a hard outer shell. Has 2 large claws, one on each hand, as well as 2 smaller claws below each large one. Black skinned, with red veins visible.
Satyr: A beast that is shaped vaguely like a man, but is a silverly metallic colours. In thick heavy armour, with a large machine gun in one hand a sword in the other, Satyr seems to have black magic and can summon allies from thin air. He can also use every ability you have earned from the different levels/areas. Named by Valek after the space station itself.
Hunters: aliens, thin bodies and large, round grey heads with fly like green eyes. All carry guns similar to Valek’s machine gun. Some carry sniper rifle like guns.
Slaves: Humans captured and brainwashed by the aliens, usually weak.
Fighter Battleships: Encountered in Area: green, these are small one man gun ships that travel very fast and have 2 mounted light machine guns as weapons.
Gwill: Small fish like creatures encountered in the water levels. Get stronger the deeper they are in water.
And there is my idea people, sorry for it being long. Now as you may have guessed, this is not really a proper complete story. I have actually planned it to have a sequel, depending on what re-action it gets from you lot. Any suggestions gratefully received.
