Learn Game Programming
DeVry's Game and Simulation Programming curriculum will prepare you for taking on various development roles in the game industry.
Game Art & Design Degree
Westwoods’s game art & design program will teach you everything you will need to know before you apply for a job in the game industry.
The Playsation 2 Smart Controller is an improved and modified hand-held controller for the Playstation 2. Alongside exciting new attachments, the Playstation 2 Smart Controller makes for higher convenience levels and an overall better playing experience.
Setting Up: The PS2 Smart Controller can be attached to the normal controller slot, though there is a far more convenient way. Simply plug in a small attachment (not attached to the controller) and a special laser guided signal is sent from controller to console. This signal is highly flexible and covers a wide range, so rapidly moving your controller or playing from a distance will not cause problems. You can play from across the hall if you'd like! Up to four Smart Controllers can be attached at once to your Playstation 2 console.
The Layout: The Playstation 2 Smart Controller is conveniently lightweight and symetrically shaped to provide playing comfort and easy gripping. On each side of the controller lies an Analog joystick, a set of four "manuverability" arrows, (also known as the Directional Pad) and the four Playsation 2 signature buttons: 0 - [] - X - T (Circle, Square, X, and Triangle)
If you are a lefty, or just not comfortable with the layout, you may switch to the opposite sides of the controller. Example: There is the D-pad, Analog stick, and 4 buttons on EACH side of the controller. Therefore you should be using the BUTTONS of one side and the D-PAD OR ANALOG STICK on another side. Since there are two of these, you can switch sides as you please.
More buttons include: The classic START and SELECT buttons, alongside an ANALOG OFF\ON button and the SMART START button. The SMART START button, when pressed, will bring you to the current game's specific options, rather than the normal pause option. (This may not make a difference unless certain options are only changeable at the title screen.)
Please note that in the back of your controller lies the R1, R2, and R3 buttons as well as the L1, L2, and L3 buttons. Pushing in the left and right analog sticks for L3 and R3 are no longer required, though you may still use them if it suits you. On the sides of the controller, there are various 'special buttons' that can be accessed. By scrolling these up and down, you can change the volume and screen color\brightness\tint of the current game being played, as well as a 'light up' button for better visuals on the controller when playing in the dark. Also, an 'analog' wheel can be scrolled, changing how powerful the "rumble" effects of the game are! The Playstation 2 Smart Controller has certain rumble circuits throughout the controller, making the very direction the rumble is coming from accurate!
SPECIAL ATTACHMENTS
BLACKOUT GOGGLES: The blackout goggles can be plugged in to a special circuit of the Playstation 2 Smart Controller. These goggles are for tactical stealth enhancement when playing shooting video games.
The Deal: When playing multiplayer shooting video games, I noted that there was a major flaw. You are given stealthy\silenced weapons and beautifully designed environments, only to be able to look on the other player's 'screen' and see exactly where they are! The Blackout goggles will fix this problem.
The Blackout goggles fit over your eyes like sunglasses, and one size fits most. The goggles have #s 1-4 labled on them, so make sure when you put them on you have in your hand the corrosponding conroller. (If you're player 1 you should have the goggles labeled 1.) When playing begins, the 'screens' (When entering multiplayer mode in most shooter games, the screen is split into four smaller screens) belonging to the other players will be 'blacked out'! That is, you can only see fuzz. And if no one can look on anyone's screen but theirs, that makes for absolute tactical stealth action!

Lightguns: Ever played a 'lightgun' game at an arcade? That is, being able to hold a plastic gun and shoot onscreen at enemies? Such games include the "Time Crisis" series and "House of the Dead". The Playstation 2 Smart Controller laser guided attachments allow for certain lightguns to be used rather than a controller. Simply press the 'lightgun' button on the PS2 Smart Controller, and the player will be able to use any lightgun of his\her choice. Press the lightgun button again to switch back to the controller.
Now sit back and enjoy the fun and excitement of the Playstation 2 Smart Controller!
