Learn Game Programming
DeVry's Game and Simulation Programming curriculum will prepare you for taking on various development roles in the game industry.
Game Art & Design Degree
Westwoods’s game art & design program will teach you everything you will need to know before you apply for a job in the game industry.
I don't care about the title as long I can get a perfect game-play. This game would have customized modules (like NWN), but with strong restrictions (no cheats, no duplicate things). Modules so we can play again and again and....again....
My idea is to make a real character with own characteristics in a game. Players won't play as the character they made, but they play as an angel (good) or evil (bad), which effect on your (the angel) spells.
The character you are going to play with, will have characteristic points, such as: 1. Bravery (if your character has high bravery point, he will likely to challange any enemy even though the enemy is stronger and he will fight bravely). If your character has low bravery points, he will likely to use sneak arrow attack and won't attack directly. 2. Money mind (if he has high money mind, your character will take money each time the enemy drops but it also means even in battle. So the enemy can just drop the money and your character will pick it and the enemy can hit you, it's one of the tactics) 3. Social points (he's desire to sociallize with the towns people, he will likely to speak to the towns people more if it's high) 4. Hunger (if your hunger is high, your character will get hungry fast, but he will have more strength). Those are small example of the characteristics.
To play the game is easy, which means you don't have to do clicking just to finish a fed-ex type of quest. You can just tell your character to go where you want to go (of course you need a town map first). This game is more on the role-playing than clicking. Your character has allignment , like (lawfull-good, chaotic-evil, etc.).
In a situation where you have to choose good or bad (ex, somebody offers you money to kill a good guy), you can't do anything, it will depend on your character allignment...but there will be a feat that you (the angel) can acquaire, which allow you to poses your character body and you can have a freedom like play NWN, if you like that mode. (It will give more replay-ability)
Chaacter will have 2 types of reputation. Global reputation and town reputation. If you help a town, you will gain quite big reputation in that town and gain little reputation on global reputation. And you can increase your reputation by just talking to town folks, however...if your charisma is low...people can get bad first impression and may lower your reputation. If you have good reputation at one town they will likely to greed you when you pass by, or some random npc come at you and say thank you and maybe give you money. Low rep., will make town's people hate at you, and if it's very low some brave people can attack you, while those who not brave run away. That's why you need to wear a cloack, also if you entering a evil city (thief town) and your character is paladin, it's better if he\ she wears cloack to hide from people who hate them.
Example of Characteristics. A thief....is called a thief for some reasons. Sneaky, little bit of greed (money), and they usualy quite coward. Have you ever seen a brave thief? It's not a thief but a robber :) Because of his greed, if you have a thief character...he will likely to ask you to sneak to somebody house. You can help him by casting sleep spell to the owner, or if your character is a mage-thief, it's better.
A paladin, because he's a hero. Town's people will like him and he will gain reputation better than any other. But....if you go inside somebody house...he won't take or steal any money even if you told him to. There should be some balance, for the classes.
Now for the battle. If you don't have posses feat, you can't do NWN style combat. instead you can help your character by casting spells and by giving directions or commands. The commands are:
1. Fight with your own style. This options will make the character to fight depends on his characteristics. Inteligent, if you have high inteligent your character can fight efficiently, have high inteligent means your character can messure the strength of the opponent. If your character has high inteligent and you are in some situation with somebody way stronger than him, he will tell you that this character is dangerous. But if his brave points is higher than int, he doesn't care if the enemy is stronger and he could challange the opponent. Coward characters will likely to use arrow or use attack and run style. (For high int character, the computer will calculate the best bonuses and penalties...for every enemy.) (The rules will change if fight against more than 1 opponent)
2. Attack faster. Your character will attack faster but lack of accuracy. (accuracy -5, speed +5)
3. Attack more accurate. More accurate swings or shot but with low re-fire rate. (accuracy: +5, speed -5)
4. Attack harder. More damage but lower your defence. (defence -5, damage +5)
4. More defence. Your character will be harder to hit but he can't get clean & hard shot. (defence +5, damage -5)
5. Attack normally. No penalties no bonuses.
I already have the system to implement this on the programming, so the computer won't confused.
The tile will effect your performance. Ex, if you are standing on mud, your attack speed will be decreased, your character can't attack good because the unstable pitch.
On specific towns there will be carnivals and they generate more items and they also provide games. The towns store also, generate different items but not as differ as the carnival's shop.
As you (not the character) gain lvl, you will get special features, ex. more people, up to 4. So..you can make a team and start the strategy thing. And if your character gains lvl he / she can also get special features, ex. summon angel / evil (summon you), now you can be in action with your character an do melee combat, the duration depends on the character's feats lvl, more he use it...the longer the duration you called to earth :)
That's small feature of the game. I want to make the character felt as alive as possible, if anyone has any suggestion or comments, please do. If there's some miss-spell, sorry for my bad english.
