This game may seem kind of cheesy at first, but hear me out.
The main character of the game is a yellow, glowing, five-pointed star for whom I can't come up with a name, so I'll refer to it as "the star." The star has been sent from a planet in another galaxy to earth in order to chase after an evil demon that has come seeking a dark magical power that he plans to use to destroy the star's home planet. The star tracks the demon all the way to an unassuming and uninhabited house in the suburbs. Now, he must search the house and find the demon so that he can save his home.
You start the game in the attic of the house. There are many "levels" throughout the house that can be found by plunging in to different places and objects that are set up in the house. When you first come in to the attic, You'll find a full-length mirror, a snow globe on a table and a locked toy box. If you jump into the mirror or the snow globe you will be transported to a level where you can search for the demon, but will probably not find him. Instead of there being objects to collect in the levels, you're going for abilities. As you gain new abilities or complete tasks, more levels and parts of the house will open up to you and you will be able to accomplish even more tasks.
You acheive abilities by accomplishing tasks in a level that would be made much easier if you could have used the abilities earn. For instance, you may be able to improve your jump height by jumping up a whole lot of platforms in a level. Different abilites you can earn include an improved jump height, a bigger swim depth, more health, etc. until you can eventually fly and turn invisible and things like that. The game's challenge comes from traversing the levels while avoiding various enemies that bounce around and shoot at you, and trying not to fall through holes. The ability you're going after in a level changes when you complete one task and re-enter the level. If you get all of a level's abilities, that level is complete and you earn a star on your star chart. You can replay tasks in the toy box (which opens after you complete your first task). As you fill up your star chart, more levels and tasks become available to you. You get prizes by filling up the chart (such as game development pictures, mini games, etc.)
The star also has three different forms: leaf star, rock star, and star fish. Leaf star can glide long distances and use updrafts to fly. Rock star resists attacks from most enemies and can smash through certain obstacles, but is much slower. Star fish can swim underwater with great ease and skill. When you enter a certain level, you will start out in one of these three forms if you are not normal star.
Once you have finished enough of the levels (by gaining all the abilities the level has to offer) the final boss' level will finally be open and the star will get the chance to save his world. Good luck, noble star.
