SoE promised to be a riot simulator. It was a good premise, but it didn’t become a hit.WHY?
The first complain was that it was too repetitive, with no multiplayer support and it was a little too linear.
But the potential was there.
At its core, SoE is a beat’em up, so MP support is a must-have feature. customizable would be great.
SoE have the premise of you (the player) playing as a revolutionarie, so you can add a little tactical gameplay. Play with a simplistic squad control, adding a kind of wanted level with the first few against the riot police, then the military and finally against the allies(airforce too), this levels wont measure by whose chasing you ala GTA(police, SWAT, FBI, military) but by the scale of the attack either by tanks blocking main streets, artillery and air bombardments or raid squads heading to the HQ.
Also in SoE the action is too chaotic, because everyone in the area is running, and policemen don’t seem to care.
Maybe it could start all calm and police sentries relaxing( smoking, talking with each other or on the phone) and once you (or others) start making trouble, most of the people will clear the street, the rioters will start looting the stores and flipping cars and even attacking garrisoned buildings occupied by security forces.
To make gameplay and missions more diverse you can make and break alliances or buy weapons from arms dealers.
Now that Im talking about money; Every time you start rioting, you have to grab all the loot and a liitle of that money you’ll get to keep, but most of it goes towards “the cause”
That money you can use to buy more armor, drugs(power-ups), health packs and ammo( the revolution will supply you with ammo but its not a lot ) and to upgrade your weapons capabilities, adding a scope, a grenade launcher or armor penetrating rounds( wich are not very effective against troops for the sake of balancing)
---WEAPONS---
These are an important part of the game. you can interact ( and use as weapons) with most objects in the game; these will be called pick-up weapons wich are scattered around and tend to break after to much use, these are all the melee weapons and handguns, you can use all that’s laying around like a park bench or a car wheel.
The other type of weapons are the mainstay weapons wich are all upgradable( but you don’t gt one early in the game because they are expensive).
You can also use explosives like granade, Molotov cocktails and even car bombs (this may be a little too sensitive because of the 9-11 attack)
*car bombs. You just step on it and rush towards your target, set the timer and jump out of the car. These are very devastating attacks, but if you jump out and there is considerable time, a bomb team will be deployed and will deactivate the bomb.
You can use this to your advantage and leave it as a decoy, these will get the attention of nearby troops . so you can either sneak towards your chosen destination or detonate the bomb manually which will kill almost all of the surrounding troops.
---CITY---
The city were the Revolution is taking place is divided into sectors and all of these are blocked off from each other by walls , which you can detonate once you lower enemy presence in the area and gain credibility.
Speaking of credibility, in each sector, you have a support meter to measure how much support you have from the citizens there .
Since you start in the poorest sector, you have a lot of populace support, but once you reach the richest one you start with absolutely no support.
How do you gain credibility?
By starting your own underground radio show, using graffiti, giving out flyers, putting posters on walls, etc.
Graffiti is a very cool feature because you can also use it to do your own things like putting your name or other stuff like that, but to pass the message of the revolution you have to draw the picture HQ gives you..
