This game is in the platform of a FPS (First Person Shooter) and 3rd person shooter (Optional)
The Basic idea is, Thousands of people in a "Theatre" which is a mission-like setup by the developers. And in these Theatres, depending on the outcome could change history. There will be Different Classes and sides: Ranks, Ocupations.

Canadians (Yes, some did volunteer for the vietnam war, and I want them in there because I am... CANADIAN)
Classes: Marine Specialist HMG - Heavy Machine Gunner Sniper Artilery Medic Mortar Crews And so on...
The way this will work is, you pick your class for the theatre and you stick with it, you will be placed in certain platoons, squads, companys. There will be different Outposts, and everyone will be stationed at random ones. And if they want to go there, they must hitch a ride with a chopper, plane: Which is wear a little bit of team play comes in.
Ranks: Pfc. Cpl. Sgt. 2nd LT. etc. (you get the idea)
This will work, depending on the kills, and recommendations your comrades' give you, for instance: If you take a squad out, and score 4 kills, and save 1 man from death: You can be recommended for a diplomacy by company commander: Or from kills you get experience: Have not totally figured it out yet.
Occupations: This will be great for team play: If a squad is under heavy fire by the NVA they can call in artillery or dust-offs, in which they will have to get onto the horn with the closest chopper or artillery squad (Which will be manned by real online player) and give them the coordinates.
Air Force: Flying Helicopters, Jet's so on.. Hvy Artilery: (i:e 6 manned Howitzer) Drivers: Jeeps, Trucks.
Now, for medical attention. I'm not sure what I should do. I would like marines, and troops to lose limbs, badly wounded etc. To bring in the realism, but the gameplay would not be satisfactory if someone loses a limb and that's it. So I was thinking, if you lose a leg from a mortar shell or something you can get a dustoff before you bleed to death, and head back to the nearest base to get treatment then they send you back to your squad. Now if you die, you will not be able to play till your squad has completed it's mission they were assigned.
Well, that's the basic layout, I dint get in TOO DEEP but, if anyone likes this idea, I will write more interesting and more detailed features.
