Learn Game Programming
DeVry's Game and Simulation Programming curriculum will prepare you for taking on various development roles in the game industry.
Game Art & Design Degree
Westwoods’s game art & design program will teach you everything you will need to know before you apply for a job in the game industry.
Internet Wrestling Game
First of all, for this game to become a reality we need the following:
- A programmer to program the program/game
- An illustrator to design the menu art and templates (more on those later)
- Animators to make needed animations for the game
- Someone with knowledge of servers and chat rooms
- Someone to design the webpage (html knowledge a plus)
Here’s the idea:
This game would work much like a chat room with interactive avatars. (Ex. The Palace.com and Donnyworld.com) You would be able to chat or WRESTLE.
When you start the program you will be prompted to connect to the internet if you have not already done so. Then a dialogue box will come up asking you to load a saved avatar.
A)Avatars
An avatar is the character you are identified by. To create an avatar you must fill in a bitmap template in a program like paint. The template will contain many different views (left, right, back, front) of a blank character (most likely a low polygon model) that the user will be able to fill in with a likeness of a current, past or original wrestlers gimmick. The only limitation on avatars will be the actual size of the wrestler model. Can you imagine meeting someone with a Brock Lesnar, Rey Mysterio or Eddie Guerro avatar?
After creating an avatar, you will be asked to put in a user name and password. These user names and passwords will most likely be made from the webpage (paid for?). You will be identified by your user name. After that you will have to connect to one of the servers.
B)Servers
The servers are servers that host the people, or in this case wrestlers. Each server will hold about 200 people. And since this is a wrestling game, the servers will bear the names of wrestling shows. The name of each server will imply the style of the ring and such. The names/shows will be the following: RAW, SMACKDOWN, HEAT. and VELOCITY (4 servers X 200 users each = 800 users). I believe that the popularity of this game might make the servers extremely hard to connect to, but thats a problem that will have to be adressed later.
Allright, now after you connect to the server you like (or the one your faction likes, more on THIS later.) the fun starts. You will be able to navigate around the arena on foot using arrow keys, a gamepad, or with a drop down menu. You can chat by just typing in the chat box and hitting enter. The areas in the arena will be just plain background pics, nothing polygonal right now. The areas you are able to move about in the "arena" are the ring area (to view matches or get involved), hallway, your factions lockeroom, or a champions lockeroom if you have a belt or are invited.
C) Creating factions/joining factions
If you don’t already know, a faction is a group of wrestlers (ex. NWO). To create a faction a person with enough wins (about 20) or a championship simply has to go to the create faction selection in the drop down menu. You will be able to select your faction name and who is in it. Beware though, people may leave factions whenever they want. Factions get their own lockeroom to discuss "business". It is up to the faction members to edit their avatars and add some kind of signature faction t-shirt or what not.
Faction members are the some of only people alowed to run-in matches. (Only matches another faction member is involved in) The other people allowed to run-in are people on your buddy-list IF a faction gets involved, and the No. 1 contender if a champion is in a match. There are no faction/buddy run ins in tag matches. Before, I go into championships and matches I must first explain how to wrestle, duh!
D) Wrestling
Wrestling will be extremely simple for everyone. This system will be a two button system relying on more skill than luck. There will be a 60 hit point meter, when the meter gets down to 15 hp the meter goes from green to red and the opponet becomes pinnable. When the person firsts logs in with a new user name they must set moves for their character. The buttons will be x, z, and the arrow keys.
D-1) Moves
Standing- arrows move, x punch (-2hp) , z kick (-2hp), x+z grapple,
- up and z leave ring, tag partner, and climb ropes
- up and x pick up weapons
Grappling- up arrow and x hold/slam (-various hp)
- down and x hold/slam (-various hp)
- right and x hold/slam (-various hp)
- left and x hold/slam (-various hp)
- up and z hold/slam (-various hp)
- down and z hold/slam (-various hp)
- right and z- whip to ropes
- left and z- whip to ropes
- x+z special hold/slam (-various hp, only available if opp. is in red)
Opponet whipped- x clothesline/flying forearm, z dropkick/big boot, (-5hp each)
Opponet on ground- x elbow drop, z leg drop, x+z and up submission, x+z and left submission, x+z and right submission, x+z and down pin
On top rope- x flying move, z flying move
Opponet in corner- x move, z move, x+z move
When the game is first launched there will be moderators set for each server. For wrestling’s sake we’ll call them the "owners"of each show. And yes there will be avatars and lockerooms for them . When things start going with champions and feuds matches will be filling up quickly so here is how the owners of each show will have to work the card. To get a match a person or persons must challenge another. They will officially fill out a form for the match. The form will include the user names of the people involved, the type of match, and the titles on the line. The form will be sent to a owner and the combatants will be alerted by e-mail they time and place of their match. If a user fails to show up for a match an automatic replacement competitor will be assigned. As feuds and factions develop, the owners will fill out Pay Per View cards for the end of every month.
E) Types of matches
Single- one on one
Tag team- two on two
Hardcore- one on one, no rules
Hell in a cell- one on one in an unforgiving steel cage (yes you can fight on top)
Ladder- use the ladder to batter opponet and get belt
Battle Royal- everyone for themselves, to eliminate opp. you have to use the whip opp. move close to the ropes
Inpromptu- this is basically a "backstage beatdown" you challenge and they reply; these matches are unscationed, they do not have any bearing on records and championships
Now the question everyone’s been thinking by this point, "You say there are champions, but which belts will they hold and how can I win a championship?"
F) Championships
The following championships/titles will be played for: Undisputed, Intercontinental, European, Tag Team, and Hardcore. These titles can be put on the line in any type of match except for inpromptu. (only the Hardcore title can be put on the line in an inpromptu match) In order to become number one contender for a title you must enter the brackets and defeat everyone in the bracket as you work your way up the ladder. There will be 8 slots in each bracket and once someone loses they must re apply a form to the owners to get back on the waiting list for that bracket. Anyone can win the Hardcore or European title, any former European champions may apply for the Intercontinental brackets, and any former Intercontinental champs may enter the Undisputed ranks. There will only be those six champions for all four servers.
Before any champions are set there will be a tournament for the people with the most wins. Basically, its first 8 to 30 get in the Undisputed tourney and then the next 24 get into the lower 3 tournaments. The first 8 tag teams to reach 20 wins get in the tag team tournament. As you win titles, your avatar wears all the championship belts you earn. The only championships that can be held by a person who already has a championship are the tag team and hardcore. If you can’t win a championship there will still be plenty of reasons to play the game like feuding against a rival faction and getting members to trade sides, or being voted best avatar and being featured in ads for the game. And with the modems coming out for the Playstation 2, Gamecube, and Xbox, this game could interact people playing on their computer with avatars to people on their home console with a avatar on their memory card. I believe this game will be a huge smash sucess due to the real people, the real emotions, and the real competition.
