Learn Game Programming
DeVry's Game and Simulation Programming curriculum will prepare you for taking on various development roles in the game industry.
Game Art & Design Degree
Westwoods’s game art & design program will teach you everything you will need to know before you apply for a job in the game industry.
Have you ever tried the usual Dungeon and Dragons RPG, and really wished for the pictures and the story you make to be more real? So you tried a computer RPG.. but still you don't get what your looking for.! Then this is the idea for you. The idea is to make a role playing game, where on is the game designer, who control the story as the game develops.( It would mean that you need a local network or a net connection.. ) Instead of the usual "you and your friends" "against/inn" the story of a computer game. It would be one off your friends ( or just somebody ) that "is" the computer program. The hole program is a GENERATOR Tool. It means; each player log on to a game, hosted by the RPG master. Their part is to play the game as they wish, jupp.. Co-operate with the other players or just run their own story, just like in a normal RPG. Then the RPG master has the jobs of setting up and create a story for the players. To do this, he has a to choose the basic setting, which could be something like : forest area, mountain area, dessert, and so on.. In this area, he needs to set up the surroundings, a town to start in would be clever. The Master cant control all the persons in a town, so he leaves it up to the computer to control the persons in the town, but as a kind of God, he can anytime take control of one of the AI in the town. ( The game should have several pre-made cities and villages to choose from, and the ability to design several yourself, - if you wish ). In the town, the Master can let the players get the start of the story, or he can let them find out what they wish to do for themselves. Millions of possibilities. Example: The players team up in the town, and choose to get their gear in order, meanwhile, the Master designs the first "level" of the story, he chooses to use a pre-made Dungeon, but not the monsters in it, so he picks some himself. He also makes a plot in the dungeon which will, if the players get it, direct them to a abandoned Church. He picks scary music to be played when the players are going to enter the dungeon, and he has made some creatures forehand, which he gives some special commands.. like not attack the wizard, but only fighters.. - Whatever - To get the players started, he take control of a little boy in the town, which he in real time talking ( text based ) get to convince the players to follow to a general store, where they can by cheap magic potions. But on their way to the town, the players bash into a fight, ( set up by the Master ), where a fighter is alone against 3 thieves. Now, its time for the players to take action, and for the Master to create a story.. Will they help the Lonely fighter ( which can guide them safely to the Dungeon, for treasure hunt, and join the team for a short period of time ) or will they help the Thieves, which can be nice to know, but surely is nobody to trust.. It's all up to the players and the Master.. The hole plot of the game, is that the all the players play together and against each others. The Masters allow play against and with them, but his job is to create a good and exciting story. As the players raise in grades( the computer to the math, so you don't have to worry about dull "throw the dice and improve your character" , how much a monster give of experience is in the game, unless the Master has made a special creature.. ), so does the selection of monsters, houses, treasures, weapons, spells, etc the Master can use and "give" to the players. Together with the selection of music to play for the players on the different levels, friends they make, enemies they make.. all which is kept a log on.
Sure all of this sound nice, the only problem is that it is a Hell of a game to RUN and MAKE. And, one more thing, you need a person which is a gooOOOOOOOooood "Master" .. But, with the speed on computer development today it should not be a problem in some years, with better net connections and cheaper network systems. The thing is to get a good RPG-Master!! -who have the time and will to make a good game, and players which is ready to play. It would for sure be no fun to play if the story sucks and you died after 1 1/2 hour... But, on the other side, if you have a good Master, good team players, you will get the best RPG ever..! No stupid CPU's running around or attacking the wall, no stupid characters saying the same line over and over again ( as the Master could/have to do the talking ) real time!! strategy, a story never alike the last one - and which nobody knows how will end. Multiple choices, as the Master has a bit more creativity than a computer game. ! daH*! Just go wondering of into the forest and se what happens ? Run away from your team, and if your a priest, maybe the Master take the role as GoD and pay you a vissSSsssit! Who knows...? Anyway.. I think this idea is not for everyone, but for the ones who get what I'm trying to explain, I'm sure you agree.. it would be pretty KeWL.!
