The Gunstick!
The Gunstick is my idea of a hybrid of the Joystick and the light gun that will work for any game, but is tailored specifically for shooters. The Gunstick is very basic in it’s design. The bottom is just like a joystick. The top is shaped like a gun, the trigger is the Fire button, the reload is the magazine release, the up down and swivel is by moving the gun. the forward, backward, strafe movement is controlled by the Keyboard, by the off hand. the other functions like jump, grenades (if separately controlled from weapons) and change weapons, are controlled from buttons on the joystick base. Alternately, the Keyboards buttons can be replaced with buttons on the joystick for a totally independent controller, freeing the keyboard for typing, or for inventory control.

It would look odd if you put a huge stick coming ou of the bottom of a gun! The idea of it is cool, but it's not that reailistic to have it that way. Any other it's and ok idea!

Its like your standard jcgter jet game joystick, one for the computer or such. but, the gun is a model. not a light gun, and not free held, but just a grip for the joystick. The buttons are put in the places the knobs and levers are on real firearms. If I had a scanner, Id put up consept art, but alas...

I don't know about the rest of you, but I like to use TWO hands when firing a gun! Let's say you're trying to reload and move at the same time...how do you hold the gun and pull the magazine release with one hand? Maybe you could drop the joystick/keyboard idea and place the buttons under the barrel of the gun-more comfortable grip. A little unrealistic, but good enough.
