These are more just refining ideas that a new game. The online empire buliding games I have played seem to have one strategy in common.
Make money... hire tons of fighters... unleash them... rack up land... and then fire them to keep your score down.
I suggest when writing war type games that units not only have a attack and defence value but a training value (TV) as well that increases each turn. New units start of at 0 (or with any bouns). Most games have some way to upgrade units, but it is in effect no matter when they are hired.
Exaple: TV +1 per turn
Thyrms Kingdom -
Turn 1; hire 100 fighters
100 Fighters TV-0
Turn 5; hire 50 more fighters
100 fighters TV-5
total unit value is 500 (100 fighters x TV-5 = 500) adding 50 new (50 fighters x TV-1=50), the new TV total is 550. Divide that by the total amont of fighters, 150, and you now have
150 fighters TV-3.6
the original 100 fighters must fight along side the new 50 fighters and affectivly bring down the overall army. Bur give them a few more turns training with the vets and they will be up to speed. In other words... 500 fighters, training together for several turns may just be as good as 2000 untrained peasents.
I have other ideas on how to ballance the "buliding" of an empire that involve type of bulidings but lets see if my training value concept interest anyone
