Winner of the February contest

Stadium

"Stadium" is to be played on a server that can hold hundreds of people. Basically the server is a small city. A city that is obsessed with organised fights. The city has 4 fighting rings (thats right, only 4). These rings are:

-Joe's Tavern (Fights every day and Night , amateur Fights)
-Knockout Fighting Club (Fights every night for skilled fighters, every discipline)
-City Centre Ring (Fights for established and renouwned fighters. Lots of promotion, lots of advertising)
-Stadium (the highest level of fighting is held here, only the best of the best meet here to fight. When there is a stadium fight, the whole city stops to watch)

Basically, the aim of the game is to win a stadium fight. But this would take a long long time. Everyone starts of at street punk level, its up to them to make it to the top, by whatever means they see fit. Why is there only 4 fighting rings if the server holds hundreds of people?? Well this means that the game is like an Action RPG. Whilst your main goal is to become the ultimate fighter, you also have to look after yourself and lead a life to support yourself. The fact that there are only 4 fighting places for hundreds of people, means that whoever is in the ring, will get a lot of attention from other online players who can watch the match. (Spectating in Stadium would be great fun)

Heres how it works: When a new player starts playing Stadium, he spawns into a small and crappy apartment. He has little money and no posessions. He has to gain fighting experience to gain experience points and develop his character (no dice rolling here, you get points for fighting and winning). He can earn a living by working (Work hours would be about 30 mins a day for playing purposes) or he can steal and commit crimes for criminals.

When he has money, he can spend it on memberships in fighting schools (there would be a wide variety of fighting styles to choose to learn). Money can also be spent on going to see fights on in one of the 4 venues in the city (Tickets dont come cheap though)

By training in these fighting schools, and learning the skills, the characters gain points, making them a better fighter. If someone cant afford to join a school, they can gain points by winning street fights against other online players (this would usually lead to a crude fighting stlye, not as effective).

Eventually, when a certain level is reached, the character can sign up for a fight. Only at Joe's Tavern at first. Then as fights are won, points are gained and the character can sign up for fights in Knockout Fighting club's ring. (When someone signs up for a fight, they are actually booking a real time to fight another online player. SO they must show up for it or the fight will be forfeited. In the event that both don't show up, a stand by fight is started.)

Obviously, fighting a lot of fights and gaining a lot of experience leads to fighting in the better venues. When a fighter makes it to a stadium fight, the fight is advertised for hours on the server. Imagine seeing your characters face on posters and TV ads throughout the virtual city on the server !!! WHen a stadium fight is won, the winner has achieved the greatest there is from the game, but it doesn't end there, they can go on to become a MANAGER or stay fighting to defend their crown.

Managers attend a lot of fights. Watching the other online players fight in all venues. They try to spot a fighter with potential and can back him finacially with money (Which he has lots of from prize money). Managers would often go to Joe's Tavern to get fresh young fighters, then back them financially to help them get proper training and become the greatest...

The great thing about this game is that all the interaction is with other real humans !!! Its an online city full of real human minds, so emotions are real too. Imagine the rush of being in a stadium fight, knowing that most of the people in the server are watching you (hundreds of people online watching you through their computer screens) . Each virtual face in the stadium representing a real pair of eyes behind a computer anywhere in the world.

Though lightly inspired by Urban Warriors (a game idea by Alex Szeto), Stadium is for certain one of the absolute coolest game ideas I have read so far. The idea about that the biggest fights will be advertised for on TV-screens around the virtual city has put a smile on my face that I'm still to wipe off!
