Leaning in a game

Dear GD,When i played Half-Life and SWAT 3 I used to get so engrossed, especially in a moment of 'stealth' that I would end up physically leaning to try and get an advantage against the enemy. Then I came across a demo of the game "Thief" where for the first time was given the option to lean and peer round corners etc.I thought what good idea but again was getting so engrossed in the game that whenever i went to lean in the game i would still find myself physically leaning too!! Then I came up with this idea: Why not actually have a sensor on each arm attached to an elasticated band and they could be worn on the upper arm with sensors on your desk so when you lent either left or right both sensors would cross each others paths as such and 'connect' which would create the leaning effect. Its an idea that could be incorporated into any first person shooter and I think it would give that more personal interactive 'feel' to a game.

I think you are onto something, this would for sure give games a more interactive feel. Neat!!!

Using your own face

Dear GD,I don't know if this idea would work but i play Unreal Tournament on-line quite allot and i thought wouldn't it be a good idea if you were to have a web-cam focused on your face while playing U.T.(or any other F.P.S.)and have it show up on your characters 'skin'. So you could be chasing or being chased in U.T. and could turn to your opponent and taunt him/her by sticking your tongue out or/and then start laughing and have that actually show up on screen! How much more personal and cool would that be?! Maybe when isdn and adsl are common place?

There have been submitted many good game ideas to Game Discovery. This is one of the absolute coolest!

Playing in actual-time

Dear GD, I've watched one of my friends play one of the "Monkey Island" games and I noticed in the game that the clock in the village square was the same as the computers and thought that was a nice touch. And it gave me an idea, wether technology would allow it I don't know, but why not go one step further .I saw in one part of the Monkey Island game my friends character walk into a barbers shop and ask a few questions that got him no-where,blah,blah,blah,boring,boring etc. The character though was allowed to pick certain items up but was always being told off and to put the items back, so this character went into this barbers with nothing and came out with nothing! How about if there was an item that you liked but boringly couldn't interact and at least barter for it so you think "right I'm gonna come back later tonight and steal that item". So when's the best time to break into a shop? Yes at night....and when is it normally really quiet? Lets just say 11pm.Heres going one step further than the village square clock....how about to break in at 11pm you actually have to wait until 11pm REAL TIME (YOUR TIME)!!!?That's not to say you cant play and complete the game in 'normal' time, but playing at certain times of the day brings bonuses and dangers! For example when your on your way to the barbers to break-in you would have to be careful that you don't meet up' with any 'dodgy' people that might try and mug you! Or an extreme (and rather adult example) would be if you met 'a Lady of the night' in a street late at night. You could lets say get 'acquainted' with her but it would cost you in money or/and material objects! But in return your morale would improve or/and you would be given some 'top tips' or 'inside' data from the 'Lady'. At the same time you run the risk of catching a 'dose' or becoming ill if you haven't any condoms! (That was an extreme example!!!) Just think how re-playable a game like that would be!! You would have people playing at all times of the day, at 3pm and 3am just to try different scenarios. There wouldn't be many games that could boast that!!
