Nintendo
Wii (code named Revolution) is the next video game console form
Nintendo and the successor to the Nintendo GameCube. In contrast
to the PS3 and Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii don’t have focus
on raw system power and next-gen graphics, as Nintendo with
the Nintendo Wii will be taking a different approach to the
market by changing the way people play games. This doesn’t
mean that the games will look bad by any means, but by dropping
the HD feature and using less powerful hardware, Nintendo will
be able to offer their console to the consumer for much less
than Microsoft and Sony can.
The most interesting feature with the new console is the
controller which can sense motion, opening up a whole new
world for both developers and gamers. The console's controller
can detect its exact location and orientation in 3D space,
a feature not available on any other mainstream console.
Another anticipated features of the new Nintendo Wii is its
game download service, dubbed the "Virtual Console. Using
this Virtual Console service, users will have the ability
to download and play many or all Nintendo-produced NES/Famicom,
SNES/Super Famicom, and N64 games for a small fee. Nintendo
has also announced that games developed for the Sega Genesis
and TurboGrafx 16 consoles will be offered via the Virtual
Console download service.
